A Mrs. Day was brought over from
Springerville last week to serve fifty days in the county jail.
Miss Dora
Miller, Mr. G. M. Marsh and Mr. J. F. White took the teachers' examination here
this week.
Hank Sharp, of Springerville, was in town this week. He is going
to move to S. Johns in the near future.
Mr. and Mrs. Monico Garcia were over
from Concho Sunday visiting with friends and relatives. Mr. Garcia was appointed
by Gov. Brodie to a lucrative position at the Territorial Industrial School at
Benson, Arizona recently but was unable to accept it on account of other
business.
Dr. Wm. Rudd, with his wife, son and daughter, and the children of
the latter, arrived November 28, after a thirteen day trip overland from
Springerville. They came by Fort Apache and Globe. The doctor spent a couple of
years here when the town was first started and has been wanting to enjoy another
valley winter ever since he left. He reports the ranges in Apache county in fine
condition - better than for five years past, because of mor abundant rainfall
during the past summer. He is stopping with his son Olney, the manager of the
Bulkeley ranch. - Glendale, Ariz., correspondent in Phoenix Republican.
Mrs.
Susanna Rothlisberger died at her home last Sunday night at ten o'clock, aged 58
years. The deceased was born in Germany, but had come to this country some years
ago and had been a resident of this place for seven years. She had thirteen
children, five who survive her, and are Mrs. G. E. Wait, Jacob R., Fred R., John
R. and Edward R. She was a faithful Latter Day Saint and was loved by all who
knew her. The funeral was held Tuesday at 1 o'clock and the remains werer put to
rest the cemetery.
Anastasco Chavez died at his home Wednesday morning at
five o'clock, aged 46 years. His untimely health was caused by consumption. He
had been a resident of St. Johns for a number of years. The funeral was held
Tuesday at two o'clock.
The girl twins that were born to Mr. and Mrs.
Federico Gonzales last week died Tuesday morning. They were taken to El Tule for
burial.
J. C. Sorenson and family of St. Johns passed through here Tuesday on their
way to Idaho, where they intend making their future home.
Mrs. Ellen
Greer of Concho left last week to make her permanent home in Utah. Mrs. Greer
has lived in this Country since 1879. Her husband, Thos. Greer, was the first
County Treasurer after Apache was organized. Mrs. Greer was accompanied to Utah
by her two sons-in-law, Chas. and Wm. Pulsipher and their families who also will
make Utah their future home.
Riley Greer has returned home from a visit
at St. Johns.
Married today at high noon, Mr. H. Knight and Miss Lou
Sherwood. The Herald-News, with so many other friends of the bride and groom,
extends its heartiest best wishes. The bride is a member of one of the best
known families in the community. The groom is one of Apache's young and
enterprising cattleman.
