Private services for Ulrich Stephen Thalheimer, 64, were in Whitney and
Murphy Funeral Home, 330 N. 2nd Ave. The Rev. Stanley Brown of Central Methodist
Church will officiate. Cremation will follow. Mr. Thalheimer died Wednesday,
December 30, 1959, in his home, 1941 W. Whitton. A native of Phoenix, he was a
brother of Walter J. Thalheimer, former Maricopa County Superior Court judge. An
air force veteran of World War I, he was a graduate of Stanford University. He
was an electrical engineer in San Francisco before his retirement. Mr.
Thalheimer was an amateur radio operator. His call letters were W7KMJ. Surviving
in addition to Walter Thalheimer, are another brother, Joseph, Fayetteville,
Arkansas; a sister, Mrs. Emma Gannon, Phoenix; and a cousin, Paul L. Dummel,

daughter of Phoenix pioneers Ezra and Cora Thayer, died Wed., Oct. 20, 1982, in
a Valley sanitarium. Miss Thayer was born in Phoenix and graduated from Phoenix
Union High School and Phoenix Junior College. She also graduated from the
University of Arizona where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. She served
on the Women's Auxiliary to Good will Industries of Arizona nad was an
accountant in Long Beach, CA, until moving back to Phoenix shortly before her
death. She is survived by a brother and a nephew. 10/22/1982.

THEES, Zina Wheeler
Zina Wheeler Thees, 96, peacefully passed away
September 5, 2004. Zina was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and
great-grandmother. Zina, fondly called G. G. by her family, brought life, love
and laughter to those she touched, and was devoted to her family. She met life
head-on with simple humility, strong spiritual beliefs, strength, courage and
grace. Zina was the daughter of Joseph E. Wheeler and Harriet I. Bingham, born
on a farm in Waterflow, N. M., later moving to Salt Lake City where she met her
future husband, Clyde. Following their marriage, they moved to Ganado, Arizona
on the Navajo Reservation. Together they owned and operated Round Top Trading
Post for over 40 years. In 1976, Zina and Clyde sold the business and retired to
Mesa, Arizona. During retirement, Zina traveled extensively with her husband
visiting family and new places. Zina is pre-deceased by her husband Clyde,
granddaughter, Lee Standifer and son-in-law, Don Maxwell. She leaves behind
three daughters, Helen Standifer (Dick), Jan Maxwell and Joyce Weitzel (Alan);
five grandchildren, Audrey Brennan (Casey), Carol Moore, Chris Moore (Lisa),
Brett Weitzel and Ashley Weitzel; and four great-grandchildren, Stuart Robbins,
Nicholas Robbins, Heather Moore and Kristen Moore. Zina was the center of her
family and she will be greatly missed. Services will be Saturday, September 11,
2004 at 10:00 AM at Friendship Village, 2645 E. Southern, Tempe, AZ. Flowers may
be sent to the family in care of Friendship Village. In lieu of flowers,

An 82-year-old Phoenix woman was killed yesterday, July 31, 1967, when
the car in which she was riding rolled off Arizona 87 approx 11 miles north of
Payson and slammed into a tree. The victim was Mrs. Claira Theis of 16027 N.
40th St. The car was driven by Mrs. Theis' daughter, Mrs. Hazel Theis King, 59,
of the same address. Mrs. King was hospitalized in Payson with a broken ankle.

retired electrical engineer with Detroit Edison Co., died Dec. 24, 1982, at his
residence. Mr. Theriault, of 8343 E. Meadowbrook, was born in Houghton,
Michigan, and moved to Arizona from Rochester, Michigan, in 1971. He was an Army
lieutenant during World War I and was a graduate of the University of Detroit.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Detroit, and World War I
Barrack 2087 in Rochester, MI. He is survived by his daughter, Virginia; son,
John, Jr., Neenah, Wisconsin; brother, Albert, Detroit, Michigan; sister, Mary

Tempe - Flora M. Thew, 80, a first grade teacher for 48 years for whom a
school was named in 1958, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1970, in Georgian Court Nursing
Home, Phoenix. She retired in May 1961. Miss Thew was one of the first national
recipients in 1959 of the Valley Forge Freedom Foundation's classroom teachers
medals awarded for her "exceptional work in teaching a better understanding of
the American way of life." Miss Thew began her public school career with a class
in 193 at the old Baptist Church parsonage at 8th St. and Myrtle. She graduated
from Areizona State University, then Tempe Normal School, in 1913, received her
B.A. from ASU in 1936 and attended the University of AZ, University of CA,
University of Southern CA, and Northern AZ University. Born in Saranac, N.Y.,
Miss Thew was brought to Tempe in 1898 by her parents, Edwin and Fannie Thew,
from Lebanon, Oregon. Her father owned one of the first dry good stores in the
Valley. Miss Thew was a charter member of the Tempe First Methodist Church.
Survivors include a brother, Charles, of Scottsdale; nephews and nieces. Burial
in Double Butte Cemetery. 12/16/1970.

THINNES, Thomas A.
Thomas A. Thinnes, December 29, 1939 - September
14, 2004. Thomas Arthur Thinnes a loving husband, father of eight and preeminent
criminal defense attorney, died from a stroke on September 14, 2004 at St.
Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. Tom was born in Selma, Indiana on
December 29, 1939 to the late Arthur and Helen Thinnes and raised in Cincinnati,
Ohio and attended University of Miami of Ohio where he studied Political Science
and Russian. He later moved to Phoenix with his family and attended Arizona
State university. After Tom received a law degree from The University of Arizona
in Tucson, Arizona in 1966 he worked in the first office of the Public Defender
of Maricopa County under Vern Croaff for two years then started the firm of
Flynn, Kimmerer, Thinnes & Derrick. After several years, Tom started his own
practice where he remained a solo practitioner until his death. Throughout his
legal career spanning almost four decades, Tom successfully defended many high
profile cases, one of which became a made-for-television movie (Tom served as a
consultant and made a cameo appearance). Tom was a member of Maricopa County and
American Bar Associations, State Bar of Arizona, National Association of
Criminal Defense Lawyers and Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice. Tom was
recognized for his excellence in trial defense work in The Best Lawyers in
America and Martindale Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers. He served as
Chairman of the Criminal Law Advisory Commission, and as Chairman of the Arizona
Board of Legal Specialization (Certified Specialist, Criminal Law, Arizona Board
of Legal Specialization). He was preceded in death by his sister Barbara and son
Thomas. He is survived by his wife Donna, sons Michael, Benjamin and Nathan;
daughters Mindy, Mary, Helen and Katie; sons-in-law Steve Bergquist, Scott
SiIverman, and Robert Milligan; daughter-in-law-to-be Jodie Hughes;
grandchildren Nicholas, Christina, Kolby, Henry, and Madeline (and Helen and
Scott's baby girl due February of 2005). Tom loved spending time with his
family, friends and two golden retrievers, writing fiction novels and relaxing
on the balcony in his Lincoln City, Oregon summer home overlooking the Siletz
River and Pacific Ocean. Tom, a devout Catholic, had a passion for life, touched
so many and put everything and everyone before him. The family requests

Dr. Oscar W. Thoeny, 77, formerly chief of staff at St. Joseph's Hospital, died
Oct. 9, 1980, in his home. Dr. Thoeny, an opthalmologist, earned his medical
degree at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He was born in Alma, WI. He
did his residency at the Naval Hospital, San DIego, and in 1942 served as an
Army doctor with the rank of colonel at William Beaumon General Hospital, El
Paso, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son, Bruce; a sister and five

business for more than 40 years, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1982, in a Valley

Gordon Crosby Thornhill, 66, died September 12, 2004 in his home in
Taylor, Arizona. Born in Taylor, Arizona on 12-27-1937, he spent summers there
but lived in Phoenix during the winters. Gordon graduated from Phoenix Union
High School and began raising his growing family of one daughter and 4 sons in
Tempe. He was founder and owner of Aero Design Manufacturing in Phoenix. In
addition to his business interests, he was the former Mayor of the Town of
Taylor, former President of the Sun Devil Club of Arizona State University, a
member of the Tempe Kiwanis and an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints. Gordon's favorite calling in the church was managing the
Taylor Stake cattle ranch with the help of many fine cowboys who he loved and
respected. A man of many hobbies and interests, he was constantly learning and
developing new skills, his latest being leather and silver crafting. He married
Nancy McCallion Fees of Tempe in 1980. He is survived by his wife and best
friend Nancy and children: Margo and Ray S. Morse, Gyle and Debra Thornhill,
Nick Thornhill, Kirk Thornhill, deceased, Eric and Rachelle Thornhill, John and
Melissa Fees, and sixteen grandchildren. Gordon's view on life was: "Life is not
a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and
well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up,

Sept. 29, 1982, in a Valley hospital. He moved to Arizona 24 years ago from his
native Kansas. He was a supervisor for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 41
years. He was a member of the Youngtown City COuncil eight years before becoming
mayor. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Sun City, the
Masonic Blue Lodge, Sun City No. 72, the Scottish Rite in Wichita, Kansas, the
Consistory and Shrine in Wichita, the Sun Sky Kiwanis Social Club, the Acacia
Club, the Booster Club of Youngtown, the Telephone Pioneers of America in
Wichita and the Sguaro Club of Telephone Pioneers of Sun City. Survivors include

Titcomb, 75, a member of one of Nogales' oldest families, died Sun, July 30,
1967. He was born in Nogales in August 1892. His maternal grandfather, George
Christ, came to Arizona Territory in 1890, appointed by Benjamin Harrison as the
territory's first collector of customs. Mt. Titcomb's father settled in Nogales
in 1883. Mr. Titcomb graduated from St. Paul's School, Concord, N.H., and Yale
University in 1913. He served in World War I as a second lieutenant in the 15th
Cavalry. He owned and operated the Titcomb Supply Co. from 1933 until his death.
Surviving are three sons, William of Nogales, Edward, Jr., of Mesa, and the Rev.
James Titcomb of Scottsdale; a daughter, Mrs. Peggy Cumming of Nogales; four
sisters, Dorothy of Nogales, Mrs. Polly Lee of Tucson, Mrs. J. W. McCall of
Pasadena, CA, and Mrs. Agard Bailey of Newport, CA; a brother, John, of New

Linda
Linda Todd loved life. Born in Xenia, Ohio, Linda grew up in Yellow
Springs, Ohio where she was known as Linda Todd Yoder. Linda past on peacefully
and gracefully last Saturday September 18th. After a very brave battle with
cancer. She left us to join her parents, Earl Yoder and Martha Ream Yoder Morris
as well as her step-father Paul Morris. Linda is survived by her brother Mark
and sister-in-law Suzanne Yoder of Sarasota Florida, her huge family of close
friends, and her beloved companion dogs Gracie and Georgey. Linda was a
beautiful, vivacious lady and her open welcoming smile portrayed her love and
generosity. Linda will sorely missed her many, many friends around the world.
She knew no strangers and always had a smile for every person she encountered.
She told a friend that until she became ill she could never remember a day
without hope. Kindness and caring were Linda's trademarks and she combined these
with her boundless energy, her unfailing loyalty to her friends and her deep
religious conviction. A great Manager, Organizer and Lover of design, Linda used
her talents in many areas. At various times she ran her own businesses - Todd
Interiors and Blooms Again. She also managed apartment complexes in Texas and
Arizona. Many charities benefited because she championed their causes, always
with a fierce conviction and total commitment. Some of the boards Linda served
on included The Young President's Organization, The Laguna Beach Community
Clinic and The Christian Family Care Agency. A memorial service will be held on
Friday, October 1st at 4:00 P. M. at the Chapel of the Scottsdale Bible Church

Officer, Lt. Colonel Alexander Todoroff, whom she married on April 19, 1952 in
Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. Thus began the exciting life of a military wife
traveling the European continent while stationed in Heidelberg, Germany for
three years. Her spirit of adventure inspired the family to reside in Illinois,
California, Hawaii and finally in Mesa, Arizona, where she settled with
Alexander in 1986. Wilma's zest for life, warmth and generosity brought her many
life-long friends wherever she lived. Wilma passed away on September 26, 2004.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years; her loving children, oldest
son Gary and his wife Lynne, daughter Linda, and youngest son Alan and his wife
Sheri; her four wonderful grandchildren Chelsea, Brett, Ian and Austin, as well
as her twin sister Veronica Peternel and youngest sister Shirley Obrymski. She
was preceded in death by her sister Margaret Mehelic. Wilma will be loved and
greatly missed by her family, many friends and everyone who had the pleasure to
know her during her gracious 82 years on this earth. Friends may call on Friday,

62, retired civil engineer and deputy chief of operations and maintenance at
Luke Air Force Base, died Nov. 25, 1982, at his residence. Mr. Tolbert was born

veteran and was a member of Disabled American Veterans and Elks Lodge No. 1961.

Martin Toney, 68, of 4016 N. 12th Ave., died Feb. 4, 1982, in his home.
He was a retired assistant engineer for structures for the state of Arizona. Mr.
Toney, who came to Arizona in 1941 from his native New York, served with the
Arizona Department of Transportation for 34 years before becoming head of the
structures group in 1971. During his time with the group, he was involved in
such projects as the Cameron Bridge over the Colorado River, the Pinto Creek and
Queen Creek Bridges and Superstition Freeway structures. Mr. Toney graduated
from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N. Y. He was a member of the
American Society of Civil Engineers. Survivors include his daughters, Karen Sue
Wood, San Diego, CA, and Carol Lynn Ezell, Des Moines, Iowa; a sister, Julia M.

president of Mobil Oil of Venezuela and recipient of the University of Arizona
Alumni Achievement Award, died June 26, 1974, of cancer at his Louisiana ranch.
He was a World War I pilot and a Rhodes Scholar. He received his bachelor of
science degree at the UofA in 1919 and his bachelor and master of arts degrees
at Oxford and his doctorate in 1931 from John Hopkins University. Wife, Estelle;

City - Huldah "Nordie" Townsend, 83, a retired registered nurse, died Jan. 28,
1980. She moved here in 1960 from Livingston, Montana. Surviving are her
daughter, Mrs. William F. Harwood; a sister; two grandchildren. Services were in
St. Christopher Episcopal Church, 103rd & Peoria. Published 1/31/1980.

Mary P. Townsend, 86, died Mond., May 8, 1967, in Phoenix Community
Hospital. She was born in Henderson County, IL., and moved to Phoenix seven
years ago from Oklahoma City. She was born in Henderson County, Illinois. Son,
Donovan, of Phoenix; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren survive.
Services and burial in Guthrie, Oklahoma. 5/10/1967.

and was a medical student at Gateway Community College. Son, Kevin; parents,

TOWNSEND, Wallace
Lamson
Services for Wallce Lamson Townsend, 68, who retired as a laboratory
technician from the Arizona Department of Transportation, were in Dunedin,
Florida. Mr. Townsend, formerly lived in Phoenix and died Oct. 2, 1979, in the
Veterans Hospital at Bay Pines, Florida. He was a member of the Disabled
American Veterans and Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Survivors include
his wife, Constance, Dunedin, Florida, former executive secretary of the Arizona
