ROACH, Helen M.
13 Dec 1890 - 15 Mar 1980 Chandler - Helen M. Roach, 89, a 40-year resident who came to Arizona in 1914 from Mattoon, IL, died March 15, 1980. She taught elementary schools in Winslow, Florence and Chandler. She graduated from Eastern Illinois University and was a past matron of Eastern Star and was an honorary member of Chandler Masonic Lodge. She is survived by a niece and three nephews. ROACH, Jon Herbert
Jon Herbert Roach, 21, who graduated from Washington High School in 1972, was found dead Monday, Jan. 12, 1976, in his father's home at San Diego. He was a marine biology student the past three years at the University of Hawaii and a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Phoenix. Father, Phillip; three brothers; a grandmother. 1/15/1976.

ROACH, Marshall Neal
Marshall Neal Roach, 68, a native of Glendale, died May 5, 1967, in Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born on an 80-acre ranch near Glendale and graduated from Glendale High School in 1916. He had been employed by the City of Glendale in 1935 and 1936. He was a veteran of World War I and had lived in Arizona all his life except for seven years in Oregon. He worked 26 years with Tovrea and Cudahy meat packing firms. Survivors include his wife, Ethel May; two sons, Robert N. of San Diego and Wayne of Flagstaff; three daughters, Mrs. Eileen Kestr of Hood River, OR, Mrs. Patricia Steward of Phoenix, Mrs. Marsha May Smith of Detroit; a sister, Mrs. Essie Wood of Phoenix; and 17 grandchildren. Burial in Memory Lawn Cemetery. 5/6/1967.

ROADIFER, Helen F.
Helen F. Roadifer, 78, a member of the Church of the Beatitudes, died May 4, 1967, in Beatitudes Nursing Home. Mrs. Roadifer moved to Phoenix seven years ago from Logan where she had been a legal secretary. She was a past matron of Friendship Chapter 40 of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the OES Past Matrons Club. She was born in Iowa. Survivors include a brother, Harold Schoenhut of Minneapolis. Burial was in Logan, Iowa. May 5, 1967.

17 Feb 1915 - 8 Oct 1980 James B. Roark, 65, who was the national chairman of the USS Arizona Memorial, died Oct. 8, 1980. Mr. Roark was born in Texas and came here from California in 1964. He retired from the Navy and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Wife, Leila; daughter, Leila Mae; two sisters; and a brother. The Arizona Republic Monday, Oct. 13, 1980.

ROB, John N.
Prescott -- Services for John N. Rob, 55, who died Saturday, May 6, 1967, in Ft. Whipple VA Hospital, were at the VA Chapel. Burial at the VA Cemetery. Mr. Rob was born in Roseland, Illinois, and came to Prescott eight years ago from New Lenox, Illinois. He had been employed for three years a t the Yavapai Lumber Co. He became a government employee at Ft. Whipple two years ago. He was a veteran of World War I having served as a sergeant in the Army. Mr. Rob was a member of the Moose Lodge in Lockport, Ill., and a member of the Prescott VFW. Surviving are his wife, Lida; three sons, Edward Brown of Kingman; John Jordon of Scottsdale; and James Jordon of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; a brother out of state; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Camp Verde - Enoch Robart, 89, died Thursday, June 13, 1974, in his home. He was a retired farmer. Barbara Elizabeth Roberts died peacefully in her sleep on August 27th, 2004 at the age of 57. She was born June 11, 1947 in Milwaukee WI, daughter of Mathew & Edith Buss. Barbara was a long time resident of Arizona. She was a realtor for over 20 years earning many awards. She enjoyed spending time with family & friends and was a dear mother to son Troy. She was a very giving person often spending holidays at the Salvation Army and contributed her time to other charitable organizations. Barbara had an incredible sense of humor, style, beauty & elegance that will long be remembered. She is preceded in death by husband Steve Sperry, father Mathew Buss & sister Joanne Skow. She is survived by her mother Edith Buss, son & daughter-in-law Troy & Julie Roberts, brother Noel Buss, sister Marlene Bartelt, and many godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. Barbara will be greatly missed by her family, friends & Ken Meade Realty coworkers. Mrs. Bertha E. Roberts, 93, a native of Kansas City who had lived in the Valley for 83 years, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1969, in Northwest Hospital. Mrs. Roberts, of 410 N. 17th Ave., was brought to Maricopa by her parents by train and the family continued their journey to Phoenix by covered wagon. Survivors include two sons, Clyde W. McClaren of Yarnell and Fletcher S. McClaren of Phoenix; 7 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Services in A.L.Moore and Sons Mortuary, 333 W. Adams. Bobbie J. Roberts, 54, an assistant manager for Circle K for 10 years, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1982, in a Phoenix hospital. Services for Mrs. Roberts of Phoenix, who came to Arizona 40 years ago from her native Oklahoma, will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Chapel of the Chimes, 7924 N. 59th Ave. She had worked at E. L. Grubers Co. for nine years. ROBERTS, Dorothy Marie
Dorothy Marie Roberts passed away from her loving family on September 15, 2004 at her home in Atascadero, California. Her legacy to all was a joy and passion for life. For Dorothy, youth was not a time of life, but a state of mind, a product of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions, a predominance of courage over timidity, an appetite for adventure. With her truly free spirit, Dorothy lived a rich and fulfilling life. Dorothy was born February 28, 1925 in New York City. After moving with her family to San Francisco, she met and married Bill in 1947 and settled in Atascadero in 1949. While raising four children, Dorothy was an active participant in the community, volunteering at schools, in her church, and, most recently, with Loaves and Fishes. An avid reader, Dorothy worked in the Atascadero school libraries for many years. After retiring, Dorothy and Bill wintered in Mesa Arizona for 15 years, making many dear friends and playing a vital role in the volunteer activities of the Monte Vista Mobile Home Park. Dorothy's lifelong passions included playing bridge and bunko with her loving friends, traveling with family, and enjoying the beauty of the great outdoors from the shores of the Pacific to the great deserts of the Southwest. She is survived by her loving husband of over 56 years William P. Roberts; her son Mark Roberts of Phelan, California; and daughters Kathleen Rutowski, Tempe, Arizona; Christine Clickard, Atascadero, California; Lynn Roberts, Bayside, California; her beloved grandchildren Sarah Schneider, Phelan, California; Deanna Roberts, Phelan, California; Diana and Devin Rutowski, Tempe Arizona; Julia Clickard, Atascadero, California; Olivia and Travis Hoffman, Bayside, California; nieces Ann Bergstresser and June Roberts, Atascadero, California; and nephew Dan Vanderpriem, Oakland, California. We will gather for a private celebration of Dorothy's life in accordance with her wishes. Tucson - Charles "Buck" K. Robinson, 61, died of a heart attack Oct. 18, 1979, while visiting in Redding, California. Mr. Robinson, a retired electrical engineer with the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation, was born in Nutrioso and moved here about 18 months ago from Alpine. He was past president of White Mountain Hospital Board and of the Bullhead City Chamber of Commerce. He also had been an associate in Williams Realty in Springerville and was a Mason. Survivors include his wife, May Bell; children, Carolyn R. Payzant and Kenneth; five sisters and a grandchild. Prescott - Charles L. Robinson, 86, night watchman for the Arizona Pioneers Home here, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1970, in the Yavapai Community Hospital. Hr was a native of Canada and moved to Arizona from Lansing, Michigan, 25 years ago and to Prescott 24 years ago. He worked as foreman of the Rio Motor Co. in Lansing. Whiteriver -- Airman 3C Stephen L. Robinson, 21, died Sat., May 13, 1967, in Wilford Hall Hospital at Lackland, AFB, San Antonio, TX. He was the son of Robert E. ROCKWELL, Margaret Adams
Margaret Adams Rockwell, who was active in the state and national Republican Party for many years, died De. 28, 1982, at Village Green Center. Mrs. Rockwell and her late husband, Foster Haven Rockwell, had owned the Adams Hotel in Phoenix. She was born in Rock Island, Illinois, and moved to Phoenix in the early 1890s. The Rockwell family home was at 131 W. Palm Lane. Mrs. Rockwell ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 1944. In 1945, she served as vice chairwoman of the Republic State Committee and later was elected to two four-year terms as Republican National Committeewoman for Arizona. She served on the National Executive Board from 1952 to 1956. Mrs. Rockwell was active in civic affairs and was a member of the Coronado National Monument Commission on the Arizona-Mexico border and director for Arizona of the Robert E. Lee Stratford Hall Foundation in Virginia. She also was a charter member of the Phoenix Soroptimist Club. She was the daughter of Phoenix pioneer J. C. Adams who built the Adams Hotel. Mrs. Rockwell is survived by her daughter, state Rep. Betty Rockwell; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Memorial services were in All Saints Episcopal Church, 6300 N. Central. A.L. Gavere Richards Rogers (85) of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on September 20, 2004. Gavere was born November 01, 1918 in Joseph City, Arizona. Of Arizona Pioneer heritage, her parents are George Elmer Richards and Hennrietta Birden. She is preceded in death by her husband, Trent H. Rogers, and three of her brothers. She is survived by one sister, Betty Ward, and her daughter Norma Gail Larson and son in-law Robert Ivan Larson, seven grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren. Gavere married Trent H. Rogers, her childhood sweetheart. She was a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served valiantly in many Church callings and served as a Church missionary with her husband in Indianapolis, Indiana. Gavere loved her dear friends and associates. "Nana" was a great mom, and a joy and inspiration to her posterity. She will be greatly missed by all. We Love You Nana! ROGERS, William R.
William R. Rogers of Sun City, Arizona, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2004. Bill was born November 22, 1948 in Christopher, Illinois to Robert Gerald Rogers and Alma Jane Rippel. He attended school in Benton and Northern Illinois. He then graduated from the Tennessee Military Institute and served in the Marines for six years. Upon his dismissal from service, he worked for the Freeman Coal Company until moving to Phoenix, Arizona in 1987. When Bill was at an early age, he was raised by his stepfather, Lynn O. Rippel and his mother Alma Jane Rippel. Bill suffered from heart disease and other complications. His wife, Jackie and stepdaughter, Kim, and mother, Alma Jane and several relatives of Benton, Illinois, survive him. His son, Eric Rogers, preceded him in death in 1998. On a November day in 1948, God sent a gift and the world would never be the same, especially mine. No farewell words were spoken, no time to say goodbye, you were gone before we knew it and only God knows why. If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. Sadly missed by wife, Jackie; stepdaughter, Kim; and mother, Alma Jane Rippel. Joe S. "Pepe" Romero, 75, of Laveen, AZ passed away quietly at home on August 29, 2004 surrounded by his family. He was born in Hayden, AZ on November 2, 1928. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Cudahy Meat Packing Co. with 29 years of perfect attendance. He then worked the next 21 years part-time in maintenance for Greyhound Racing until two years ago when he was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Joe was a simple man who was known for his great smile and dimples, his love of family, horses, hunting, and the great outdoors. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose M. and Carmen Sierras Romero and brother Felizardo Garcia. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Adelina; his daughters, Ana and Gina Romero and Denise Michelle Monson (Mitch); son Joseph (Lucy); and 7 grandchildren, Natali, Stephania and Vincent Lenzi, Cera Monson, Ivan Torres, Michael and Karina Romero; and his beloved dog, Muffin. RONNING, Adolph
Adolph Ronning, inventor, dies at 89 Adolph Ronning, 89, a research engineer and inventor, died Monday in a Valley hospital. Services for Ronning, 4750 N. 55th St., will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Green Acres Chapel, 401 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale. He invented the power road grader and sold the idea to McCormick-Deering. He also built a forage harvester and sold the patents and the product to International Harvester. In the 1920s, Ronning created a photoelectric switch that General Motors installed as an automatic headlight dimmer on Cadillacs. During World War II, he contributed 38 projects to the war effort, including the stick power control used to operate and drive tanks. Ronning introduced a twin-wheel, front-suspension system used on John Deere tractors and shortly before his death, he was working on safety designs for motor buses, trucks and an airplane landing gear. ROSENSTIEL, David J.
David J. Rosenstiel, 38, an official of Schenley Industries and son of the firm's president, died yesterday of a heart attack in his Tucson home. Mr. Rosenstiel, son of Lewis S. Rosenstiel, was regional advertising merchandising manager for Schenley. He was active in Tucson civic affairs, including the Tucson Medical Center. Mr. Rosenstiel moved to Tucson in 1949. His parents had been long-time Tucson visitors and Schenley's executive headquarters were moved here in the early 1940s. He is survived by his wife, the former Babette Lazarus, of Columbus, Ohio; four children, David, Robert, Nancy, and Billy; and a sister, Mrs. Sidney Frank, and his grandmother, Mrs. Florence Heller, both of New York City. Allen G. Roth, 41, a Sheriff's Detective who suffered a back sprain while making an arrest in late April, developed meningitis while being treated, and died in St. Joseph's Hospital Sunday, June 2, 1974. Ronald Gary Roth, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, September 17, 2004 after a battle with Lou Gehrig's (ALS) disease. In 1964, he graduated from the University of Southern California and served in the United States Coast Guard until he was honorably discharged in 1967. He enjoyed riding horses, flying, snow skiing and boating. ROUNSEVEL, Walter H.
Walter H. ROunsevel, 91, died Sat., July 6, 1974, in Phoenix Medicenter. He had owned and operated Castle Hot Springs, a resort hotel about 50 miles northwest of Phoenix from 1923 to 1968 when it was sold to Talley Industries. He resided in the Hotel Westward Ho after the sale of Castle Hot Springs. He was a native of Newport, N.H., and came to Arizona in 1923 from California. Mr. Rounsevel operated Castle Hot Springs, originally built as a sanatorium in 1890, continuously, except for a period during World War II when it was leased to the Army. He had no immediate survivors. Burial in Los Angeles. 7/8/1974.

ROUSE, Millard L.
Klondyke - Millard L. Rouse, 79, who worked on ranches in the Wilcox area, died Dec. 20, 1982, in Mount Graham Community Hospital. He was born in Oklahoma and moved to Klondyke 18 years ago. He was a farmer and a logger. Wife, Kisrilla; stepsons, Chet Harvey, Eddie and Harold Lackner; a sister; a brother; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. ROUTH, Mary Elizabeth
29 Mar 1915 - 4 Mar 1980 Peoria - Mary Elizabeth Routh, 64, who had lived in Peoria from 1972 until a month ago, died in Yakima, Washington. She was a member of Peoria Baptist Church. ROW, Doyle
Gilbert - Services for Doyle F. Row, 69, who died January 5, 1982, in Mesa Lutheran Hospital, were in the Assembly of God Church, 532 W. Ray Road. Mr. Row, 15255 E. Willis Road, was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Operating Engineers Local 428. He came to Arizona 34 years ago from his native Oklahoma. Coolidge -- William D. Rowe, 78, died Mond., Sept 4, 1967, in Pinal General Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Wolfe City, TX, and had lived in Coolidge 22 years, coming here from Oklahoma. Mr. Rowe was a construction worker, building high tension power lines. Prescott - Funeral services for William P. Rowe, 60, who died in the Veterans Administration Hospital here Sunday, January 3, 1960, will be in Lansing, Michigan. Mr. Rowe, born in Newberry, Michigan, had been a resident of Prescott nine years. A retired U. S. Army master sergeant with 30 years' service, he was a veteran of World War II. Janes Brownell Rowley, 67, of 5049 E. Desert Park Lane, died Nov. 14, 1982. She was born in Sandusky, Ohio, and moved to Arizona in 1943 from New York. She graduated from the University of Akron and worked in the field of fashion and merchandising. She was a member of Christ Church of the Ascension and a life member of Scottsdale Memorial Hospital auxiliary. Survived by husband, Donald C., and her aunt, Carrie Hubbard of Ashtabula, Ohio. Services were at Messinger Mortuary. Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1982.

ROWLEY, Kenneth P.
Kenneth P. Rowley, 80, who had been a self-employed gas and oil dealer in Iowa, died Thursday, September 30, 1982, in a Valley nursing home. Services for Rowley of 12420 103rd Ave., Sun City, were in All Saints of the Desert Episcopal Church. He moved to Sun City in 1981 from his native Iowa. He was a member of the Otley Lodge No. 299 F&AM in Perry, Iowa. Survivors include his wife, Lucile; a daughter, Catherine Ann Weyers; and two granddaughters. 10/1/1982.

Leon M. Roxas, 84, of Phoenix, a farm laborer, died Nov. 13, 1988. He was born in the Philippines. Rosary for Ernest A. Roy, 59, was in the family home on the Salt River Indian Reservation. Mass was in St. Francis Catholic Church on Agency Road. Mr. Roy lived on Osborn Road near Mesa and died Oct. 21, 1979, in Phoenix Indian Hospital. Born in Arizona, he had been a food caterer for the Senior Citizens group on the reservation. Mel L. ROZIENE, 78, who came to Phoenix in 1901 from Vermont and had been an electric motor winder for the Salt River Project, died July 1, 1979, in Phoenix Veterans Hospital. Mr. Roziene, 519 E. Portland, was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 266. His wife, Teresa survives. Private services were arranged at A. L. Moore & Sons Mortuary.
