M. Roach, 89, a 40-year resident who came to Arizona in 1914 from Mattoon, IL,
died March 15, 1980. She taught elementary schools in Winslow, Florence and
Chandler. She graduated from Eastern Illinois University and was a past matron
of Eastern Star and was an honorary member of Chandler Masonic Lodge. She is

1972, was found dead Monday, Jan. 12, 1976, in his father's home at San Diego.
He was a marine biology student the past three years at the University of Hawaii

Marshall Neal Roach,
68, a native of Glendale, died May 5, 1967, in Good Samaritan Hospital. He was
born on an 80-acre ranch near Glendale and graduated from Glendale High School
in 1916. He had been employed by the City of Glendale in 1935 and 1936. He was a
veteran of World War I and had lived in Arizona all his life except for seven
years in Oregon. He worked 26 years with Tovrea and Cudahy meat packing firms.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel May; two sons, Robert N. of San Diego and
Wayne of Flagstaff; three daughters, Mrs. Eileen Kestr of Hood River, OR, Mrs.
Patricia Steward of Phoenix, Mrs. Marsha May Smith of Detroit; a sister, Mrs.
Essie Wood of Phoenix; and 17 grandchildren. Burial in Memory Lawn Cemetery.

Helen F. Roadifer, 78, a member of the Church of
the Beatitudes, died May 4, 1967, in Beatitudes Nursing Home. Mrs. Roadifer
moved to Phoenix seven years ago from Logan where she had been a legal
secretary. She was a past matron of Friendship Chapter 40 of the Order of
Eastern Star and a member of the OES Past Matrons Club. She was born in Iowa.
Survivors include a brother, Harold Schoenhut of Minneapolis. Burial was in

at the VA Cemetery. Mr. Rob was born in Roseland, Illinois, and came to Prescott
eight years ago from New Lenox, Illinois. He had been employed for three years a
t the Yavapai Lumber Co. He became a government employee at Ft. Whipple two
years ago. He was a veteran of World War I having served as a sergeant in the
Army. Mr. Rob was a member of the Moose Lodge in Lockport, Ill., and a member of

Kingman; John Jordon of Scottsdale; and James Jordon of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; a

ROBERTS, Dorothy Marie
Dorothy
Marie Roberts passed away from her loving family on September 15, 2004 at her
home in Atascadero, California. Her legacy to all was a joy and passion for
life. For Dorothy, youth was not a time of life, but a state of mind, a product
of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions, a predominance of courage over
timidity, an appetite for adventure. With her truly free spirit, Dorothy lived a
rich and fulfilling life. Dorothy was born February 28, 1925 in New York City.
After moving with her family to San Francisco, she met and married Bill in 1947
and settled in Atascadero in 1949. While raising four children, Dorothy was an
active participant in the community, volunteering at schools, in her church,
and, most recently, with Loaves and Fishes. An avid reader, Dorothy worked in
the Atascadero school libraries for many years. After retiring, Dorothy and Bill
wintered in Mesa Arizona for 15 years, making many dear friends and playing a
vital role in the volunteer activities of the Monte Vista Mobile Home Park.
Dorothy's lifelong passions included playing bridge and bunko with her loving
friends, traveling with family, and enjoying the beauty of the great outdoors
from the shores of the Pacific to the great deserts of the Southwest. She is
survived by her loving husband of over 56 years William P. Roberts; her son Mark
Roberts of Phelan, California; and daughters Kathleen Rutowski, Tempe, Arizona;
Christine Clickard, Atascadero, California; Lynn Roberts, Bayside, California;
her beloved grandchildren Sarah Schneider, Phelan, California; Deanna Roberts,
Phelan, California; Diana and Devin Rutowski, Tempe Arizona; Julia Clickard,
Atascadero, California; Olivia and Travis Hoffman, Bayside, California; nieces
Ann Bergstresser and June Roberts, Atascadero, California; and nephew Dan
Vanderpriem, Oakland, California. We will gather for a private celebration of

a heart attack Oct. 18, 1979, while visiting in Redding, California. Mr.
Robinson, a retired electrical engineer with the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation,

president of White Mountain Hospital Board and of the Bullhead City Chamber of
Commerce. He also had been an associate in Williams Realty in Springerville and

Services for Robert Robinson, Sr., were in Webber's Eastlake Mortuary, 1641 E.
Jefferson. Services were held at the same time for his son, Robert Robinson,
Jr., who died at the age of 5 days in a Phoenix hospital. The father died of a
gunshot wound December 31, 1959. Mr. Robinson is survived by his wife, Flora,
and two stepchildren, Barbara and Gene Carroll. The family resides at 1130 W.
Hadley. Officiating at the services was Elder Felton King. Interment in

-- Airman 3C Stephen L. Robinson, 21, died Sat., May 13, 1967, in Wilford Hall
Hospital at Lackland, AFB, San Antonio, TX. He was the son of Robert E.
Robinson, Jr., superintendent of the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. He was born
in Bonham, TX, and came to Whiteriver with his family while still a small child.
He graduated from Alchesay High School where he was valedictorian of the 1963
class. He attended Northern Arizona University for two years and the University
of Arizona for one year before entering the Air Force in Sept. 1966. He is
survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Robinson and one brother,
Timothy, all of Whiteriver. Services were in the Whiteriver Mission. Burial in
Pinetop Cemetery. 5/17/1967.

working for Neltec in Tempe. Robert's dream was to be a helicopter pilot, but he

ROCKWELL, Margaret Adams
Margaret Adams Rockwell, who was active in
the state and national Republican Party for many years, died De. 28, 1982, at
Village Green Center. Mrs. Rockwell and her late husband, Foster Haven Rockwell,
had owned the Adams Hotel in Phoenix. She was born in Rock Island, Illinois, and
moved to Phoenix in the early 1890s. The Rockwell family home was at 131 W. Palm
Lane. Mrs. Rockwell ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 1944. In 1945, she served
as vice chairwoman of the Republic State Committee and later was elected to two
four-year terms as Republican National Committeewoman for Arizona. She served on
the National Executive Board from 1952 to 1956. Mrs. Rockwell was active in
civic affairs and was a member of the Coronado National Monument Commission on
the Arizona-Mexico border and director for Arizona of the Robert E. Lee
Stratford Hall Foundation in Virginia. She also was a charter member of the
Phoenix Soroptimist Club. She was the daughter of Phoenix pioneer J. C. Adams
who built the Adams Hotel. Mrs. Rockwell is survived by her daughter, state Rep.
Betty Rockwell; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Memorial services
were in All Saints Episcopal Church, 6300 N. Central. A.L. Moore & Sons made

owner and developer of the Spirit Lake Hospital in 1935 and later helped develop
Dickinson County Hospital He graduated from the University of Iowa Medical
School and had residencies in Toledo, OH, and the University of Vienna, Austria.

directors of the Mesa Historical Society. He was born in Cornhouse, Alabama, and
he came to Mesa in 1920 from Corpus Christi, Texas. He was an ordained temple
worker for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a high priest in
the Mesa eighth ward. Survivors include his wife, Erma; children, Edward S.

Gavere was born November 01, 1918 in Joseph City, Arizona. Of Arizona Pioneer
heritage, her parents are George Elmer Richards and Hennrietta Birden. She is
preceded in death by her husband, Trent H. Rogers, and three of her brothers.
She is survived by one sister, Betty Ward, and her daughter Norma Gail Larson
and son in-law Robert Ivan Larson, seven grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren,
and six great-great grandchildren. Gavere married Trent H. Rogers, her childhood
sweetheart. She was a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-Day Saints. She served valiantly in many Church callings and served as a
Church missionary with her husband in Indianapolis, Indiana. Gavere loved her
dear friends and associates. "Nana" was a great mom, and a joy and inspiration
to her posterity. She will be greatly missed by all. We Love You Nana! Services
will be held at 1 PM Saturday, September 25, (with a visitation at 12 PM) at the

Bill was born November 22, 1948 in Christopher, Illinois to Robert Gerald Rogers
and Alma Jane Rippel. He attended school in Benton and Northern Illinois. He
then graduated from the Tennessee Military Institute and served in the Marines
for six years. Upon his dismissal from service, he worked for the Freeman Coal
Company until moving to Phoenix, Arizona in 1987. When Bill was at an early age,
he was raised by his stepfather, Lynn O. Rippel and his mother Alma Jane Rippel.
Bill suffered from heart disease and other complications. His wife, Jackie and
stepdaughter, Kim, and mother, Alma Jane and several relatives of Benton,
Illinois, survive him. His son, Eric Rogers, preceded him in death in 1998. On a
November day in 1948, God sent a gift and the world would never be the same,
especially mine. No farewell words were spoken, no time to say goodbye, you were
gone before we knew it and only God knows why. If tears could build a stairway
and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. Sadly
missed by wife, Jackie; stepdaughter, Kim; and mother, Alma Jane Rippel.

Joe S. "Pepe" Romero, 75, of Laveen,
AZ passed away quietly at home on August 29, 2004 surrounded by his family. He
was born in Hayden, AZ on November 2, 1928. He served in the U. S. Army during
the Korean War. He retired from Cudahy Meat Packing Co. with 29 years of perfect
attendance. He then worked the next 21 years part-time in maintenance for
Greyhound Racing until two years ago when he was diagnosed with Pulmonary
Fibrosis. Joe was a simple man who was known for his great smile and dimples,
his love of family, horses, hunting, and the great outdoors. He is preceded in
death by his parents, Jose M. and Carmen Sierras Romero and brother Felizardo

RONNING, Adolph
Adolph Ronning, inventor,
dies at 89 Adolph Ronning, 89, a research engineer and inventor, died Monday in
a Valley hospital. Services for Ronning, 4750 N. 55th St., will be at 1 p.m.
Friday in Green Acres Chapel, 401 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale. He invented the
power road grader and sold the idea to McCormick-Deering. He also built a forage
harvester and sold the patents and the product to International Harvester. In
the 1920s, Ronning created a photoelectric switch that General Motors installed
as an automatic headlight dimmer on Cadillacs. During World War II, he
contributed 38 projects to the war effort, including the stick power control
used to operate and drive tanks. Ronning introduced a twin-wheel,
front-suspension system used on John Deere tractors and shortly before his
death, he was working on safety designs for motor buses, trucks and an airplane
landing gear. Survivors include a daughter, Adair Kelley; a brother; and two

in Mesa. He was born May 17, 1919 in Boyden, Iowa to Lucas and Gertrude
(DeWeerdt) Rons. He served in the US Army from April, 1941 to August, 1945 and
married Dorothy VanderHaar on December 11, 1946. The family lived in Boyden,
Iowa and moved to Coal City, Illinois prior to relocating to Mesa where he
retired in 1983. Survivors include his wife Dorothy, children Gary (Kathy),
Arlen (Kathy) and Loren Rons and daughter Sandra (Bill) Chaney, grandchildren,
Lucas, Makell and Nicholas Rons and Ryan Chaney, two sisters, Mina Goodyear and
Alma (Ed) Donkersloot. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers,
Albert, Peter, Edward and Louis and one sister Jeanette Moret. Memorial services

W. Glenn, died Monday, Aug. 7, 1967, in Phoenix Baptist Hospital. Mr.
Rosenberger, who was born in Watseka, Illinois, came to Phoenix three months ago
from Valparaiso, Indiana, where he had lived for 40 years. He was a member of
the First Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Ruth, of Valparaiso, and
a brother, Lee, of Phoenix. Services and burial in Valparaiso. Lundberg Chapel

88, a valley resident for 23 years, died Dec. 28, 1982, at her home in Phoenix.
Mrs. Rosenblum was born in Ohio and moved to Arizona from Lincoln, Nebraska. She
was a member of Temple Beth Israel. She is survived by her daughter, Elaine
Garfield, and two grandchildren. Graveside services were at Beth Israel
Cemetery, 305 South 35th Ave. Sinai Mortuary made arrangements.

homemaker, died June 13, 1994. She was born in Philadelphia and was a member of

ROSENSTIEL, David J.
David J. Rosenstiel, 38, an
official of Schenley Industries and son of the firm's president, died yesterday
of a heart attack in his Tucson home. Mr. Rosenstiel, son of Lewis S.
Rosenstiel, was regional advertising merchandising manager for Schenley. He was
active in Tucson civic affairs, including the Tucson Medical Center. Mr.
Rosenstiel moved to Tucson in 1949. His parents had been long-time Tucson
visitors and Schenley's executive headquarters were moved here in the early
1940s. He is survived by his wife, the former Babette Lazarus, of Columbus,
Ohio; four children, David, Robert, Nancy, and Billy; and a sister, Mrs. Sidney
Frank, and his grandmother, Mrs. Florence Heller, both of New York City. Funeral
services will be at Adair Funeral Home with Rabbi Albert Bilgray officiating.
Burial will be in the family plot in Cincinnati. 28 January 1960.

18 Apr 1895 - 28 Feb 1970. Carl Rosenstock, 74, a retired Army master
sergeant who had served in the Mexican campaign, World War I, World War II and
the Korean Conflict, died Feb. 28, 1970, in St. Luke's Hospital. He was born in
Tucson and joined the Army in 1912 and retired from active duty in 1955. He was
a member of the American Legion and the Masons in Brockton, Massachusetts, and
lived in Phoenix the past 14 years. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Phyllis

Sheriff's Detective who suffered a back sprain while making an arrest in late
April, developed meningitis while being treated, and died in St. Joseph's
Hospital Sunday, June 2, 1974. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and came to
Phoenix 30 years ago. He attended Kenilworth Grade School and graduated from
Phoenix Union High School and Phoenix College and attended the Air Force
Academy. He was wounded in action during the Korean conflict and received the
Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and combat leaf and Purple Heart. He

Ronald Gary Roth, beloved husband, father,
brother, grandfather and uncle, passed away peacefully on Friday morning,
September 17, 2004 after a battle with Lou Gehrig's (ALS) disease. Ron, born in
Los Angeles, California in 1941, graduated from Beverly Hills High School. In
1964, he graduated from the University of Southern California and served in the
United States Coast Guard until he was honorably discharged in 1967. Ron's
lifelong work was in industrial real estate construction as a general contractor
and property manager, and his work contributed to the growth and prosperity of
the Greater Phoenix area. He enjoyed riding horses, flying, snow skiing and
boating. Ron leaves behind his loving and caring wife Becky; children Noreen &
David Henig, Stephanie & Scott Goodman, Roger Roth & fiancée Stacey Bernstein;
brother Ken Roth; sister Marissa Roth; step-children Christine & Philip Ordway;

Belle Rounds, 82, were in the Garden Chapel of M. L. Gibbons Mortuary. The Rev.
Elbert S. Morford officiated. Burial in Mesa Cemetery. Dr. Rounds died Jan. 9,
1960, in Mesa Southside District Hospital after a short illness. She was born in
Oswego, N. Y. Her family moved to Sioux City, Iowa, and later she moved to
Chicago where she graduated from the Chicago Medical College in 1904. She
practiced medicine in Chicago until her retirement. She moved to Mesa 13 years
ago. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Mesa and of the Order of
Eastern Star of La Grange, ILlinois. She is survived by her husband, Howard A.,
who until his retirement was a handwriting expert with the U. S. Secret Service
for many years; a daughter, Mrs. Myrtle MacPherson of Marango, Iowa; two sons,
Daniel H. of Mesa and Clarence A. of Roswell, N. M.; 10 grandchildren and 17
great-grandchildren. Sunday, January 10, 1960.

ROunsevel, 91, died Sat., July 6, 1974, in Phoenix Medicenter. He had owned and
operated Castle Hot Springs, a resort hotel about 50 miles northwest of Phoenix
from 1923 to 1968 when it was sold to Talley Industries. He resided in the Hotel
Westward Ho after the sale of Castle Hot Springs. He was a native of Newport,
N.H., and came to Arizona in 1923 from California. Mr. Rounsevel operated Castle
Hot Springs, originally built as a sanatorium in 1890, continuously, except for
a period during World War II when it was leased to the Army. He had no immediate
survivors. Burial in Los Angeles. 7/8/1974.

died Friday, June 14, 1974, in a Valley nursing home. She came to Flagstaff in
1893 and to Glendale in 1908 from the mining town of Middleton. Sons, John S.

Millard L. Rouse, 79, who worked on ranches in the Wilcox area, died Dec. 20,
1982, in Mount Graham Community Hospital. He was born in Oklahoma and moved to
Klondyke 18 years ago. He was a farmer and a logger. Wife, Kisrilla; stepsons,
Chet Harvey, Eddie and Harold Lackner; a sister; a brother; 11 grandchildren and
11 great-grandchildren. Services were at Caldwell's Chapel of the Valley in

came to Arizona 34 years ago from his native Oklahoma. He is survived by his

member of Scottsdale Memorial Hospital auxiliary. Survived by husband, Donald
C., and her aunt, Carrie Hubbard of Ashtabula, Ohio. Services were at Messinger

Sun City in 1981 from his native Iowa. He was a member of the Otley Lodge No.

caterer for the Senior Citizens group on the reservation. Survivors include

ROZIENE, Mel L.
Mel L. ROZIENE, 78, who came to Phoenix in 1901 from
Vermont and had been an electric motor winder for the Salt River Project, died
July 1, 1979, in Phoenix Veterans Hospital. Mr. Roziene, 519 E. Portland, was a
member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 266. His wife,
Teresa survives. Private services were arranged at A. L. Moore & Sons Mortuary.
