area in 1902. At the time of her death, she resided at the family's ranch in

- Marie Claire Hider, 78, who owned and operated the Tots and Teens Shop in
Phoenix from 1950 to 1978, died Dec. 21, 1982, in St. Joseph's Hospital. Mrs.
Hider was born in California and moved to Phoenix 46 years ago from San
Francisco. She also had owned and operated the Pied Piper Shop in Scottsdale
from 1954 to 1970. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Jim (Marilyn)
Pentkowski; a sister, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Rosary was

Lowell C. Higdon, 82, of Peoria, AZ.
passed away peacefully on Sept. 7, 2004. He was born in Damascus, Arkansas on
August 30, 1922. He was a Civil Engineer, retired, and worked out of the Federal
Center in Denver, Colorado for 16 years. He was a lifetime member of the Elks
for 43 years and a member of the Sun City Lodge #2559 for 21 years. He was also
a member of VFW Post 1433. He was past president of Walkabout AZ. where he
logged 2,832 miles walking. In the 1950's he played upright base with Bob Wills
and his Texas Playboys. He served in the First Army in WWII, in the 188th Field
Artillery Battalion and was at the Battle of the Bulge and landed on Utah Beach.
He also spent time in the National Guard and the Reserves. He also served in
Germany, Belgium, Holland, France, England and Scotland. Mr. Higdon is survived
by his wife, Phyllis of 22 years, 3 children, Bob, Ed and Patty, 3 stepchildren,
Debbie, Gary and Jeff, 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He will be
remembered for his loving ways and his sense of humor. He was loved by all that
knew him. Services will be held at grave site at the National Cemetery in
Phoenix, at Cave Creek and Pinnacle Peak Road, Sept. 17, 2004 at 10:15 a. m. In
lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to Sun Health Hospice,

Gazette. She received her teaching certificate in 1907 from Tempe Normal School,
now Arizona State University. Before that she attended Glendale schools where
her family were ranchers and farmers. She taught school while her late husband,
Tom, served in the Marines in World War I. She moved from Phoenix to Tucson in

"Irish" Hill, a long-time worker for the state Democratic Party, will be Monday,
following a mass at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 1946 E. Lee St. Ms. Hill
died at her home Wednesday. She was 56. A rosary is scheduled for Sunday at the
Adair Funeral Chapel, 1650 N. Dodge Blvd. Ms. Hill was known as "Irish" to a
generation of Pima County Democratic politicians and never sought or held a
visible party post but she was praised by the state's leading Democrats as an
indispensable part of the party organization. Gov. Bruce Babbitt credited her
with "almost single-handedly holding the party together during times that
various factions were at war in Pima County". She served as a committee woman on
both the state and county Democratic committees and was named to the charter
commission of the Democratic National Committee by Chairman Robert Strauss in
1973. Ms. Hill was born in Chicago and was an Arizona resident for 36 years. She
is survived by her husband, William, a son and her parents. Published in The

April 23, 1978. She was a captain in the nurse corps during World War II and had
been a nurse at St. Agnes grade school until retiring this year. She moved here
from Ohio in 1961. Survivors include a son, George, of Phoenix; one sister,
Elizabeth Viland, of Pennsylvania; and two brothers, Louis and Edward Varga,

Rosary for George H. Himes, 73, who died Friday, Aug. 11,
1967, at St. Joseph's Hospital, was in Whitney and Murphy Funeral Home, 330 N.

four years ago from Ottumwa, Iowa, where he was born. He was a heating and
plumbing contractor there for 50 years. A veteran of World War I, he held

Church of Phoenix, died yesterday, Sept. 9, 1967. Mrs. Himes was a member of the
American Legion. She was born in Lebanon, IN, and came to Phoenix in 1942.

Private services for John D. Hinds, 80, who died Oct. 27, 1979, in Valley View
Hospital, were arranged at Lundberg Mortuaries. Mr. Hinds had been an
owner-manager of a dry cleaning business. He moved here in 1959 from Boulder
City, Nevada, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Masonic
Square Club. Surviving are his wife, Corinee; daughters, Camellia Krack and

retiring in 1959, died Wed., May 17, 1967, in Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr. Hing

citizen of the US 45 years. Survivors include his wife, Sue K.; a daughter, Mrs.

Globe - Funeral services for Samuel B> Hinton, 73,
who died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1960, in his home, were in the Fort Thomas School.
Born in Goldthwaite, Texas, he moved to Globe in 1899. He moved to Geronimo in
1922 and worked for the Arizona Highway Department for 22 years. In 1943, he
came back to Globe and was employed at Roosevelt Dam by the Salt River Water
Users Association. He is survived by his wife, Sadie; a son, Hardt Hinton,
Phoenix; two daughters, Mrs. Sammie Boone, Globe, and Mrs. Ruby Kempton, Eloy;
three brothers, Pat, Little Acres, Dorrie, Tucson, and Bert Hinton, Geronimo;

Mrs. Maude Godwin, Mrs. Ema Manning and Mrs. Opal Walliman, all of Globe; 11

30, 1980, in her home. She came here 12 years ago from Evanston, Illinois, and

HISER, Myrtle Agnes
Myrtle Agnes Hiser, 58, was
found shot to death in her home Mar. 2, 1970, apparently the victim of
self-inflicted wounds, police reported. The body was discovered by her husband,
Terrell who said she had been despondent over ill health. Mrs. Hiser was born in
Asher, OK, and came to the Glendale area in 1959 from Yukon, OK. She is survived
by her husband, Terrel D.; two sons, Duane and Derrel; daughters, Jo Ann
McMILLIN of Tucson and Janice ENTRIKEN, Grants Pass, OR; two sisters and five
brothers out of state; 10 grandchildren. Burial in Resthaven Cemetery, Glendale.

HJALMARSON,
Margret J.
Margret J. Hjalmarson, 53, of Peoria, Ariz., passed away in Camp
Verde on Sept. 16, 2004. Margret was born in Phoenix to Winifred and Dori
Hjalmarson an Dec. 3, 1950. She was a graduate of South Mountain High School,
attended Arizona State University. and graduated from the University of Colorado
and the University of Southern California, where she earned her Masters in
Physical Therapy. She participated in advanced studies at Kaiser Hospital in
Vallejo, Calif., and in London, England. She worked as a physical therapist for
the Glendale School District and had taught in the Health Science Department of
Northern Arizona University. She loved working directly with patients and did so
at St. Joseph's and Mayo Hospitals. She periodically taught specialized therapy
techniques and was a visiting faculty member for the University of Southern
California. She was a talented musician and a competitive athlete who loved many
sports and was the organist at St. Alban's Anglican Church in Peoria. She was a
P. E. O., and practiced her Christian faith as an Episcopalian. She is survived
by her partner, John Zeliph, and her six brothers, Hjalmar (Patricia), Halldor
(Gail), Magnus (Gloria), Bjorn (Patsy), John (Mary Ann), and Lawrence (Virginia)
Hjalmarson. She was loved by the many generations of the Hjalmarson and Zeliph
families, who will miss her greatly, and will be especially missed by her
"grandchildren" Tyler, Sidney and Dylen. Instead of flowers, contributions may
