EADES, Lillian
Lillian Eades, 83, a homemaker, died Sunday in a Valley hospital. Services for Mrs. Eades, an Ahwatukee resident, will be today in Tempe Mortuary, 405 E. Southern Ave., Tempe. She moved to Arizona 13 years ago from Chicago. She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star in Chicago and was a member of the Lutheran Church. She is survived by a daughter, LaVerne Simmons. EAGAR, Evan, II
Mesa - Services for Evan II Eagar, 31, who was residential supervisor for Farnsworth Construction Co., were in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1415 E. Southern. Mr. Eagar, 1501 E. Glade, was born in Springerville and died Oct. 7, 1980, in St. Joseph's Hospital. He was named to All State football and basketball teams at Round Valley High School. He was graduated from Mesa Community College and attended Arizona State University one year. He was a ward clerk and former youth leader in the LDS 36th Ward and was leader of the Western Union, a local band. Surviving are his wife, Fay; children, Meilyn, Kari, Tami, Julie, Michael and Joshua; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Eagar; two sisters and a brother. Meldrum Mortuary made arrangements. EAKIN, Berlie Robart
Peoria -- Berlie Robart Eakin, 79, who had been employed by AZ Highways magazine from 1939 to 1946, died Sept. 25, 1967, in her home four miles west of Bell Road on 83rd Ave. Mrs. Eakin was a native of Reidsville, N. C., and had resided in Phoenix since 1902. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Franklin DALEY and Mrs. Lyle PATRICK; two sons, A. W. ROBART and Dink ROBART; a brother, William ISLEY, all of Phoenix; two sisters, Mrs. Pinkey GIST of Phoenix and Mrs. Loyal GREEN of Anaheim, CA; 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Kay Montgomery Eames, 52, a self-employed truck driver, died Dec. 17, 1982, at Humana Hospital Phoenix. Mr. Eames, of 4228 E. Oak, was born in Ogden, Utah, and moved to Phoenix 24 years ago. He was a former member of the 23rd Ward Elder's Quorum Presidency, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his wife, Lillian; daughters, Carol L. Jamieson and Lola J. EARHART, Raymond
Tucson -- Raymond Earhart, 88, an Ohio native, died Monday, May 8, 1967, in Elks Hospital. Mr. Earhart came to Arizona in 1906 and settled in the Patagonia area where he was a merchant and mine developer. He served two terms as county sheriff, two terms as county treasurer, and one term as a state representative. In 1920 and 1921 he was state treasurer. 5/10/1967.

EASTBURN, Lola Louise
Lola Louise Eastburn, born May 21, 1925, will be missed by her husband of sixty-two years, Lee M. Eastburn. She is survived by her brother, Ted, and her sister Bonnie. Lola will remain in loving memory by her three sons: Martin, Emil and Eric; her two daughters: Sharon and Karon; eight grandchildren: Sean, Lee, James, Robert, Richard, David, Dustin, and Allen; and four great-grandchildren: Andrew, Daniel, Anya, and Rory. Emerson L. Eby, 87, of Mesa, AZ, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2004 in Dubuque, IA. Mr. Eby was born on September 4, 1917 in Sunnyside, WA to Enoch and Martha (Anding) Eby. He married Loyette Baker on May 25, 1978 in Kennewick, WA. Emerson owned and operated a wheat ranch in Washington and was a veteran of the U. S. Navy for four years in Pearl Harbor. He is survived by his wife Loyette Eby, Mesa, AZ; three sons, Michael Eby, Kennewick, WA, Ralph Eby, Kennewick, WA, Frederick (Kathy), Kennewick, WA; daughter, Molly (Charles) Williams, Port Orchard, WA; step daughter, Sherry (James) Cheney, Dubuque, IA; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. EDBERG, Edwin A.
Edwin A. Edberg, 79, passed away Sept. 4, 2004 in Phoenix, AZ. Born in Buffalo, NY, Edwin received his education in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University, and Economics and Business Administration from Harpur College. In 1946 he joined the Chemical Div. of Borden Company and was involved in research and development of synthetic adhesives. In 1950 he went to work for Koppers Company and during the next 15 years he developed and patented many new products, including expandable polystyrene foam. Edwin began and supervised a marketing program to introduce the new products to various commercial end-users, along with providing seminar programs for technical groups and television presentations for the plastics industry. In 1966 Edwin and his family moved to Arizona and settled in Scottsdale. His interest in financial and business planning led to a change in career choice and in 1970 he founded Edberg Associates, Ltd., a local firm for the design, installation and administration of qualified retirement plans. His children joined him in 1975 and the family business, in credit to his early leadership, flourishes still today. Edwin is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eunice, his son, Eric Edberg (Susan), daughters Phyllis Grossman (Jon) and Pamela Edberg-Pike, 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and his step-mother Alice Wasson. A Memorial Service will be held in the Life Center at Beatitudes Campus, 1610 W. Glendale Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85021 at 11:00 a. m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004. EDWARDS, Harold
Prescott - Harold E. Edwards, 85, who worked in display advertising for The Arizona Republic beginning in 1917, died Dec. 27, 1982, in Yavapai Community Hospital. Mr. Edwards, of Prescott, was born in Moscow, Idaho, and first moved to Arizona in 1917. He resided in Arizona for 31 years and served in the Army during World War I. He had been a registered senior sanitation inspector for the state of Washington for 18 years before retiring in 1963. He was a member of World War I Army Barracks #2362, a life member of the National Association of Sanitarians, and past commodore of the Bremerton Yacht Club. Mary 'Bety' Eglyn of Paradise Valley, AZ passed on at home with her niece Janice at her side August 31, 2004 in Lake Havasu City, AZ, where she lived for nearly three years. Bety was born Mary Elizabeth to Herman and Carolyn Freese in Chicago, IL. She was raised in Oklahoma and moved to the Phoenix, AZ area in 1940. Bety modeled for Tapleys of Scottsdale. She met Bernard Eglyn at Korricks Department Store where she was an Illustrative artist for the advertising department, and he was a store manager. They married March of 1943. Bety was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church, the Phoenix Art Museum, Heard Museum, and Arizona Artists Guild and volunteered for the PBS in Phoenix. She leaves behind her brother William Freese of Shreveport, LA; niece, Janice (Freese) and husband Ron Hunsaker of Lake Havasu City, AZ; nephews, Robert Freese and his wife Susan of Hesperia, CA, Clifford Gamble and his wife Coral of Lake Havasu City, AZ and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Bernard Eglyn and brother Robert Freese. EITZEN, Robert W.
Robert W. Eitzen of Berkeley Heights passed away at the Manor Care Nursing Center on Sunday, September 12th, after an extended illness. He would have been 80 on October 3rd. Mr. Eitzen, who had also lived in Madison and Chatham for many years had previously been a resident of Bucks County Pennsylvania, and Phoenix Arizona. Born in Brooklyn, he was raised in suburban Philadelphia. During World War II, he was a Staff Sergeant in the 301st Signal Operations Battalion, 22nd Corps, Company A of Patton's Third Army, serving in Europe. He was married to Margaret-Mary (Maggie) Dickie in 1946. They had two daughters and were divorced in 1976. After WWII, Mr. Eitzen settled in Philadelphia, where he earned his degree in Civil Engineering from Drexel University (then Drexel Institute of Technology). In 1951 he moved his family to Ivyland in Bucks County, and worked for Joseph E. Heffernan and Son Contractors in Conshohocken, PA. For many years he served on the Centennial School District School Board, and was a supporter of the Bucks County Symphony Orchestra. In 1968 Robert left Pennsylvania and moved to Phoenix, where he had a firm franchised to build with Armco Steel Products, Certified Building Systems. After a number of years in Arizona, he moved to New Jersey, where he continued his work as an engineer and consultant. He was married to Georgia Sheppard Trudeau, who passed away in 1997. ELDER, Peter James
Peter James Elder, 87, passed away quietly at his home on September 20, 2004. Born in San Francisco on February 26, 1917 he was the son of Elizabeth S. and William H. Elder. He spent summers on a family ranch in Anderson, California, and enjoyed attending Shanigan Lake School on Vancouver Island. He moved to Hong Kong in 1939 to work for a marine insurance agency. In December 1941 he was interned as a civilian POW by the Japanese. He was repatriated 9 months later. Upon release, he became an officer in the Army Air Corps. He returned to the Orient for business in 1945, and then married Cathryne Percy in Manilla. They moved to Phoenix in 1953 and had one daughter, Dorian Elder Kuper who lives in Oregon with her husband, Tom. Peter married Dee Klages in 1964. They had a wonderful life together for 40 years. Peter owned Elder Insurance Agency until he retired. During retirement he donated time to SCORE, enjoyed gardening and barbecueing. There will be no services. Walter Franklin Ellis, 96, of Toccoa, GA. died Saturday, September 4, 2004 at his home. Born on July 16, 1908, in Monroe Township, Green County, Wisconsin, he was the son of the late Frank Nehemiah Ellis and Rosa Stauffacher Ellis. On July 28, 1928, he married Florence Ruth Wenger at Albany, Wisconsin with whom he had 2 sons and 4 daughters. They farmed in Green County, Wisconsin until 1951 when he went into construction work. They moved to Arizona in October 1957 where he and his wife were in the laundry business. His wife died October 1, 1974 in Chandler, Arizona. On April 19, 1975 he was married to Hedwig Wampfler, moving to Toccoa, GA. at their present residence. He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1940 and was an active member of the local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Toccoa, GA. He is survived by his wife, Hedwig Ellis, sister Pearl Koller, Monticello, Wisconsin, daughters, Fern Gruber, Brodhead, Wisconsin, Marlea Brabentz, Chandler, Arizona, Jean Kiel, Chandler, Arizona, Rosie Carrillo, Upland, California, and one son, Ethan Ellis, Rockford, Illinois. He is also survived by step-children, Norman S. Wampfler, Toccoa, Georgia, Betty Jean Brigman, Greenville, South Carolina, and Ivan J. Wampfler, Rockford, Illinois along with 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, four sisters, 1 grandchild and 2 great-grandchild. ELLSWORTH, Eugene
Chandler - Services for Eugene Ellsworth, 60, a former Chandler city councilman and vice mayor, were at the Chandler Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mr. Ellsworth, 598 Toledo St., died Feb. 1, 1982, in the Phoenix Veterans hospital. He was born in Mesa and moved to Chandler in 1937. He owned Ellsworth Agencies, handling insurance and real estate and was a former director of the state board of Independent Insurance Agents. He helped organize the Chandler, Mesa and Tempe Insurance Agents Association and was its first president. Mr. Ellsworth was born in Mesa and attended Chandler High School. He attended Arizona State University. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and served on the Chandler City Council and founded the Chandler Club of Toastmasters International. He also was a member of the Chandler Rotary and Lions Clubs and was active in the Boys Scouts. She was the daughter of William and Mary Ellsworth of Safford and the last survivor of their nine children Rosa Welker, Jessie Killian, Bertha Foote, Wm. Leslie Ellsworth, Rex C. Ellsworth, Heber G. Ellsworth, Evan S. Ellsworth and Reed W. Ellsworth. She is survived by 19 nephews and 20 nieces and numerous grand and great grand nephews and nieces. Lola was an ardent reader, lover of the arts and a loyal fan of ASU sports. Her favorite activity was attending thoroughbred horse racing with her brother, Rex C. Ellsworth, who was one of the leading thoroughbred racehorse breeders in America. Her love of travel took her to every state as well as over the world. She is a graduate of Brigham Young University and Columbia University of New York City. She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving a mission to Illinois and serving in many Ward and Stake positions. She was always interested in national and civic politics, never failing to vote. Lola spent 35 years teaching Home Economics at Arizona State University, serving as chairman of the Clothing and Textile Department. She retired as Professor Emeritus in 1972. She loved her profession and enjoyed her students, both in and out of the classroom. Because of her outstanding work, Lola was named one of the two charter members of the Arizona Home Economic Association Hall of Fame in 1976. In 1983, she was honored by Brigham Young University, receiving special recognition as an individual who had made a significant contribution to society. The honor was evidenced by a "lovely" inscribed silver bowl. Funeral services will be at 4:30pm, Thursday, September 30, 2004 at the Mesa Kimball East Stake Center, 4640 E. Holmes Ave., Mesa AZ. William R. Elmer, 80, who came to Arizona in a wagon train in 1907, died Friday, Feb. 8, 1974 in Desert Samaritan Hospital. He farmed in Graham County until 1925 when he moved to Mesa and operated a dairy farm and had been a city employe for 13 years until his retirement in 1958. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Minnie Elphinstone, 83, died Thurs., Aug. 31, 1967, in Phoenix General Hospital. Mrs. Elphinstone was a past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star and was a Lutheran church member in Chicago.
