Sept. 29, 1980, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, will be Thursday at the
Wickenburg Funeral Home. Mrs. Dean, a Kentucky native, moved to Wickenburg in
1945. She later lived in Phoenix and Eloy. Survivors include a son, Howard, and

moved to Chandler five months ago from Thomasboro, Illinois. He was born in
Pickens, S.C. and died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1982, in a Valley hospital. He had been
a construction supervisor for Interstate General Contractors, builders of air
traffic control towers and radar sites in Long Grove, Illinois. Survivors
include his wife, Edith; daughters, Phyllis MENNENGER, Naomi WELLS, Lois WILDE;
sons, Raymond, John, Jr., and George; two sisters; two brothers; 13

DEAN, Richard
Funeral services
for Richard Thomas Dean, pilot of the light aircraft which crashed Jan. 18,
1979, about 20 miles south of Wickenburg in the desert, were last week in the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Kirkland. Mr. Dean was an elder
in that church. He and three passengers were enroute to work at the Palo Verde
nuclear generating plant near Buckeye. Stormy weather conditions prevailed at
the time. Interment was in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Mr. Dean lived in Walnut
Grove. He was born 40 years ago in New Mexico and had been a resident in Arizona
for 32 years. He was a steam fitter and had worked all over the state of Arizona
at his trade. At the time of death, he was employed by Bechtel Corp. as general
foreman at the nuclear generating plant. Mr. Dean was a member of El Zaribah
Shrine Temple, Phoenix and a charter member of the Elks Club, Page. Survivors
are his widow, Kay Ester; three daughters, Larella Linda, Luella Lena and Lorana
Lea all of Walnut Grove; a brother, Robert W. Dean of Yuma; two sisters, Onita
Elmore of Biloxi, Miss., and Patricia Jacobson of Puyallup, Wash., his mother,
Margie helper of Forrest, Miss., and father, William C. Dean of Anderson, Mo.

Alfred
Alfred "Allen" Dearwester, 83, former resident of Phoenix, died September
10, 2004 at Florida Hospital, Orange City, FL due to complications from
pneumonia. Mr. Dearwester, a WW II Army veteran, was born May 31, 1921 in
Cincinnati, OH. He was employed as the Manager of Graphic Reproduction at
General Electric in Ohio, transferring to Daytona Beach, Fl to work on the
Apollo Support project. He later transferred to G E/Honeywell Phoenix. After his
retirement in 1978 he actively volunteered and became involved in Archaeology.
He also served as a member of the Board of Directors for Pueblo Grande Museum.
He put in countless hours volunteering for N. O. S. E., Christmas for the needy,
Navigator program at Sky Harbor, AARP, PCSH, and directed the annual Indian
Market for several years. He also participated in many archaeological digs
throughout Arizona finding and recording artifacts. He was appointed by the
Governor to the Archaeology Advisory Commission in 1993, 1996 and 1999. As well
as being a friend of the Hopi, he lectured throughout Arizona on turquoise, rock
art, and site excavations, to name a few. He was an active member of the
Honeywell Retirement Club, making many contributions to its monthly newsletter.
Mr. Dearwester returned to Florida in August 2002 and resided in Deland.
Survivors include sons, Allen of Fruitland Park, FL, David of Edgewater, FL,
Bill of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Marc of Orange City, FL, daughters, Emily Morris
of Spring, TX, Roseanne Chiulli, of Cocoa, FL, along with five grandchildren.

Scottsdale, AZ died Monday, September 20, in Scottsdale, AZ, as the result of an
automobile accident. Jane was born in Sioux City, IA February 20, 1961, grew up

Washington University. Her vibrant personality will be missed by parents, Paul

Hungary, died Friday, May 12, 1967, en route to a hospital here. He was a metal
grinder for a metalcraft firm. He was born in Budapest, Hungary, and left there
in the revolt of 1959 and lived four years in New Jersey. He was a naturalized

Joseph John DeCaro, Jr. 82, of Scottsdale, AZ quietly slipped into
the presence of the Lord, September 3, 2004. He was born March 15, 1922 in
Chicago, Illinois. He served in WWII with the 485th Anti Aircraft Artillery
Automatic Weapons Battalion (96th Division) in Leyte and Okinawa, South Pacific
Theatre. After the war, he graduated from American Television School in Chicago,
IL and later began employment with Motorola. He was then transferred to
Scottsdale, AZ in 1968, retiring in 1987. Joseph is survived by his loving wife
of 42 years, Mable DeCaro of Scottsdale, AZ; daughter, Sharon Frank of Chandler,
AZ; Son-In-Law and friend, Rick Frank of Chandler, AZ and sisters, Antoinette
and Jeannie of Chicago, IL. Services will be held on Wednesday, September 8,
2004 at Messinger Indian School Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd., Scottsdale,

and Thelma Maloy of Safford, Arizona. Janet married Orville W. Decker, September
8, 1951. They have six children: O. Lynn Decker, Holbrook, AZ, Rhonda Warner
Sunsites, AZ, Jeffrey Decker Mesa, AZ, Douglas Decker Gallup, NM, Jay Decker
Winslow, AZ, and Gery Decker, deceased. The family lived in Safford, Show Low,
Holbrook, Flagstaff, and moved to Mesa, July 1999. Janet and Orville have served
two full-time missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to
Greece Athens Mission on the Isle of Cyprus, and to the Wisconsin Milwaukee
Mission. They have also served as temple workers in the Arizona Temple for 9
years. Janet is survived by one sister, Marie Busby, of Safford, Arizona. There
will be a viewing on Friday evening, September 17, 2004 from 6:00-8:00 p. m. at
Bunkers Mortuary, 3529 E. University Drive, Mesa. A viewing will also be held on

Walnut Ridge -- The Rev. Larry Deems, 75, of Walnut
Ridge, died Thursday, Sept. 9, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Born at Coffeyville, Kan., he was a retired Southern Baptist minister and member
of the First Baptist Church of Alton, Mo. He was association missionary for
Southern Baptist Churches in Southern Missouri. Survivors include two daughters,
Kathie Deems Jones-Vasarhely of Parker, Ariz., and Julia Ann Jenkins of
Jonesboro; a sister, Myrtle Agnes Burnsed of Hewitt, Texas; two brothers, Calvin
E. Deems of Carterville, Mo., and Junior Franklin Deems of Virginia Beach, Va.;
eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
his parents, Albert Calvin and Myrtle Agnes Gibson Deems; two sisters; and a

56, who retired as a senior command pilot from the Air Force in 1967 and began
his second career as manager of propulsion product support. for AiResearch, died
Sunday in St. Joseph's Hospital. Col. Deitch, of 6214 E. Catalina Drive,
received his pilot wings in 1942 and became a squadron commander in World War
II. He flew 18 combat missions over Korea during 1950-51, commanded the 385th
Strategic Missile Squadron, Vandenberg AFB, California, and in 1966 assumed
command of the 11th Strategic Aerospace Wing, Altus, Oklahoma. His decorations
included the legion of Merit with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal,
Air Force Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star with one Oak Leaf cluster.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella; daughters, Mrs. Noel Silverman and Dianne
Deitch; and four grandchildren. Mass was in the Church of St. Theresa, 5045 E.
Thomas, Phoenix. Burial will full military honors by a Williams AFB funeral

Willie L. Delany, 35, the victim of a shooting Sunday, May 14, 1967,
died May 19, 1967, in St. Luke's Hospital. He suffered gunshot wounds in both
legs and in the back. Police said Evelyn Louise Winston, 40, of 1134 E. Monroe,
told them that she feared Delany and fired at him after he broke into her
apartment, damaged her furniture and clothing and then refused to leave. She was
charged in the court of Justice of the Peace Ida Ann Westfall with assault with

Donna Beth DeSa of Glendale, Arizona, loving Wife and Mother passed away
from this world and into the arms of our Lord. Donna's unbreakable spirit, wit,
faith and beautiful soprano singing will be missed by all who knew her. Donna
was born in Boise, Idaho in 1943. Donna Stilson grew up as a farm girl in Idaho,
the first in her family to graduate from college with a degree in teaching.
Donna fell in love and married a dark and wavy haired farm boy from Los Banos,
California, named Russell DeSa. Russell and Donna were married over 40 years,
and raised two loving children, John and Tahlya. The family grew with addition
of both a wonderful daughter-in-law Joann and a son-in-law Matt. Donna was
further blessed with three grandsons, Matthew, Nathan and Alex. Despite her long
battle with MS, Donna continued to be a beacon and light for the family. She is
missed. Donna's only sibling survivor is her sister Patricia Wilbanks, of
Georgia. She was preceded into heaven by her Father William Stilson, Mother
Alice Stilson, Sister Ruby and Brother Earl. A memorial service will be held 11

25, 1974, in Valley View Community Hospital, Youngtown. Sons, James and Donald;

eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services and burial in

DESOTO, Cecelia Torres
Cecelia Torres DeSoto, Teacher, Beautician.
Cecelia Torres DeSoto, 67, a teacher at The Tidewater School in Huntingtown, MD,
died Sept. 1 at Washington Hospital Center of cancer. She lived in Benedict, MD.
Mrs. DeSoto worked at The Tidewater School since 1995 and took great joy in
teaching art, music, and Spanish to Pre-K - 5th grade children. She was born in
Phoenix, Arizona. She met her future husband in grade school and married him
after graduating from Phoenix Union High School. She went to beautician's school
in Phoenix. Her husband's military, college, and defense department assignments
took her to Camp Pendleton, CA, back to Phoenix, AZ, San Francisco, CA from 1958
to 1968, then to Germany from 1968 to 1973, where they traveled all over Europe
with their four children. Mrs. DeSoto's family moved to Alexandria, VA in 1973.
For seventeen years, she owned and operated a beauty salon in Old Town,
Alexandria; The Alexandria House for Beautiful Hair. Benedict, MD has been her
home since 1977 at DeSoto's Landing Marina founded by her husband and son, Eric.
After many years of part-time classes starting at Georgetown University, she met
her goal of a college degree in Social Work in 2003 from The College of Southern
Maryland. She made an impression on everyone she met and loved to give gifts of
homemade food and her artwork to friends and family. Her interests included
cooking, decorative painting, antiquing, gardening, reading, boating, and
spending time with her grandchildren. She also volunteered at a local abuse
center where she taught women to cook, sew and take care of their children. She
was preceded in death by her mother Luz (Lucy) Torres. Survivors include her
husband of 50 years, M. John DeSoto of Benedict, MD; four children, Cynthia
Marson (Ed) of Brandywine, MD, Katherine Brady (Shaun) of Davidsonville, MD,
John DeSoto of Waldorf, MD and Eric DeSoto (Cheryl) of Alexandria, VA; four
sisters: Amelia Garcia, Adelaide Ramirez, Dora Cadriel, Norma Bennett; two
brothers: Arthur Torres, Tommy Torres, all of Phoenix and eleven grandchildren.
She was dearly loved and will be missed by her family and those who knew her.

Walter Francis
DesPlanque, 66, a retired filter plant employe, died Friday, May 12, 1967, in
Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born in France and came to the United States 64
years ago and to the Valley 11 years ago. Survivors include his wife, Jeralda;
three daughters, Mrs. Charles Mitchell of Knoxville, IA, Mrs. Peter Johnson of
New Jersey, and Mrs. Abelardo Gordoa, Glendale; two sons, Albert of Phoenix and
Walter of Bussey, IA; a brother, Clabert, Phoenix; three brothers and one sister
out of state; and 22 grandchildren. Burial in Memory Lawn Cemetery.

1994. She was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, and was an engineering technician.

Scottsdale hospital. Mrs. Deters was a member of the Catholic faith. She is

DEVANEY, Cecil
Flagstaff -- Services for
Cecil DeVaney, 67, owner of DeVaney's Bootery, who died Thursday in Flagstaff
Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Federated Community Church. Private
cremation will follow. Mr. DeVaney was a member of the Elks and Kiwanis clubs
and the Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce. He was born in Trinidad, Colo., and came
here in 1922 from Colorado. Survivors include his wife, Lucina, and a niece,
Mrs. Lucille Ardrey, both of Flagstaff; and two nephews, Edwin of Safford, and
Wallace of Flagstaff. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Flagstaff
Mortuary. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Fund.

1982, in her Mesa residence. She was born in Ozone Park, N.Y., and moved to

Master and sangin the church choir. Survivors include a daughter, Jane Buehrer;

Jimmy Betts Devine, 10, who died in a local
hospital Friday, Sept. 8, 1967, from injuries suffered in an automobile
accident, was taken to his native Starkville, MS, for burial. Jimmy was the son
of Mr. and Mrs. James BETTS and was a student at Monroe Elementary School. Other
survivors include his brother, Stewart of Phoenix; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Johnny RANDLE of Starkville and a paternal grandfather of Starkville. Burial in

1961, died Sun., Mar. 1, 1970, in Phoenix Memorial Hospital. Mr. DeVoss moved

Mary D. Dewey, 73, died Dec. 22, 1982. Mrs.
Dewey was born in Provincetown, Massachusetts, and moved to Phoenix in 1958.

San Carlos - Raliegh Dewey, Sr., 45,
an attorney in the San Carlos Apache tribal court system, died Oct. 8, 1979, in
Phoenix Indian Medical Center. Services in San Carlos Catholic Church. He was
born here and had been a dispatcher, then lieutenant in the tribal police force.
He also had been a judge and probation officer. Surviving are his wife,
Germaine; children, Gretta, Vernia, Delamay, Pherilyn Smith, Winema Willis and
Ralph; a sister, three brothers and four grandchildren. The Arizona Republic

DEWITT, John Daniel
John Daniel DeWitt, 81, who retired
as a special officer after 40 years with Santa Fe Railroad, was in security for
Phoenix Union High School seven years and was a church leader, died Oct. 9,
1979, in Snowflake. Mr. DeWitt was a high priest, served in the Bishopric and
High Council in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Memorial
services were in the LDS Fifth Ward Chapel, 1316 E. Cherry Lynn. Additional
rites were in Snowflake, Owens Mortuary announced. Mr. DeWitt was born in
Colonia Dublan, Mexico, and came to Woodruff in 1900. He graduated from the
Snowflake Academy and Married Claradell Smith in 1919. Survivors in addition to
his wife include his children, Marjorie Gardner, Russell, Larry, Dan and Harold;
two sisters, two brothers; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. The

DeWitt, 94, passed away September 6, 2004. She was born December 21, 1909 in
Bisbee, Arizona to Lorenzo and Theresa Wright. She was preceded in death by her
parents; her husband, Frank M. DeWitt; brothers, Harold, Bassett, Bill, Jack,
and LaVaughn Wright; sister, Beatrice Judd; daughters, Brenda Sue DeWitt and
Vicki Gephart. She is survived by her brother, Tom Wright; daughters, Sharlene
Bouldin, Deanne Gardner, Garna Randall (Bert), Marsha Turk (Dean), 16
grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren. She worked many years as a bookkeeper
for Wright's Market and was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints serving in many positions. Visitation will be held on Friday,
September 10, 2004 from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m., Bunker's Garden Chapel, 33 N.
Centennial Way, Mesa, AZ. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 11,
2004 at 10:00 a. m., Mesa Maricopa North Stake Center, 1716 N. Date St., Mesa,
AZ (west of Country Club Dr., north of McClellan), with visitation one hour

DEWITT, William Wendell
William
Wendell DeWitt, age 89, passed away September 11, 2004 in Vernon. Mr. DeWitt was
born in Holbrook. He lived in Woodruff and attended elementary school there. He
later attended Snowflake Union High School. After school he married Ruby Packer,
and moved to Avondale where he worked for Goodyear Aircraft building airplanes
during World War II. They later returned back to Woodruff & Holbrook where he
worked for the U. S. Post Office until he retired. After retiring they moved to
Payson where they lived for 10 years before returning home to Holbrook in 1992.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in
many capacities throughout his life. He loved gardening, the outdoors, hunting &
fishing, bowling, and golf. Mr. DeWitt is survived by his daughters, Janet
Hatch, Diane (Lynn) Decker; sons, Fred (Corrine) DeWitt, Brady (Carolee) DeWitt;
brothers, Waldo (Nancy) DeWitt, Carlisle DeWitt; sisters, Marie Maennche, Sue
(Kent) Palmer; 30 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren, 14 great great
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby in 1996, sons, Max &
Dillis. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M., Thursday, September 16,
2004 at the Holbrook Stake Center The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 P. M., Wednesday, September 15th at
