Mr. Buck, of 9457 110th Ave., was born in Niangua, Missouri, and moved to Arizona 13 years ago from Kansas. He was a member of Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran Church, a 50-year member of the Masons and of Isis Shrine Temple, a member of the Royal Order of Jesters and the Elks Club. Paul Francis Buckland, 91, passed away on Dec. 29, 2005 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was born in Somerville, Mass. on Dec. 14, 1914 to Arthur and Marie Buckland. He was employed as an optician in Boston until moving to AZ in 1953. After six months of retirement, he returned to work at the V.A. Hospital for another 11 years. He was a devoted husband and caregiver to his wife, Lois, until her death in 2000. He is survived by his children, Polly (Bill) Longo, Joni (Kent) Franklin, George (Betty), Christine (Steve) Wages; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 5 great, great grandchildren. Retired Lt. Col. Glenn M. Buckles, 66, a career officer in the Air Force, died in Valley hospital after an illness. Services for Buckles, a Tempe resident, will be at noon Wednesday in Carr Memorial Chapel, 26 E. Fifth St., Tempe. He moved to Tempe in 1968. He served in World War II. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. He served as the last commander of the civil engineering squadron, Turner Air Force Base at Albany, Georgia. In recent years, he worked for Bonanza Airlines, Hughes Air West and the Arizona Department of Education in the supply office. He was a Mason and was a member of Lodge No. 157 in Urbana, Illinois, where he also was a member of the Congregational Church. Survivors include his wife, Frances; a son, Maj. Beverly "Carol" Bulla, 64, passed away at home in Scottsdale, Arizona on September 14, 2004 after a valiant battle with cancer. Carol completed her journey home to God with love, dignity and hope, a reflection of how she lived her life. Carol was born in Hastings, Oklahoma on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 1939 and resided in Arizona for most of her life. Carol attended Gilbert High School where she was the state of Arizona's Future Farmer's of America sweetheart. In 1961, Carol graduated from Arizona State University where she was a member of Chi Omega and met the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Bulla, whom she married after graduation. Bob and Carol enjoyed 43 years of marriage. In addition to Bob, Carol is survived by their three loving children, Bonnie, Kristi, John and her mother, Ruth Wiehl. Carol was preceded in death by her father, Joe Wiehl, brother, William Wiehl, and sister, Joann Lang. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews. Carol was active in the community and gave tirelessly of herself to others. She was on the board of the Arthritis Foundation, the Arizona Chapter, and founded Salute to Summer, a fund raiser to send children with childhood arthritis to summer camp. Carol also suffered from Rheumatoid arthritis for many years, but the disease did not prevent her from creating beautiful oil paintings that were a highlight of the Salute to Summer auction. Carol was also a board member of the Desert Botanical Gardens, a member of Creative Women of Pinnacle Peak and a former member of Friendship Village. Carol will be dearly missed by her family and friends, but she will always remain in our hearts. A memorial service to celebrate Carol's life will be held on Monday, September 20, 2004 at 10:30 A. Mass of Requiem for Beverly F. Burke, 71, a pioneer Arizona druggist who died yesterday, August 16, 1967, in St. Joseph's Hospital, will be sung in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. 4715 N. Central. Mr. Burke was born in Prescott where his father built the Burke Hotel, now the St. Michael Hotel. He started his career in pharmacy in Prescott and came to Phoenix in 1923 to manage the Owl Drug Store. In 1963 Mr. Burke was named Arizona's outstanding retail druggist by the American Druggist magazine. He was a past president of the State board of Pharmacy and an hororary member of a pharmacy college fraternity at the University of Arizona. Mr. Burke, 1808 N. 11th St., became a partner in the Dorsey-Burke Drug Store in 1925 and opened his own store the same year at Fourth St and Van Buren where he operated it until 1948. He then opened a store in the Medical Center, 1313 N. 2nd St. and later opened one in the Orthopedic Clinic, 2626 N. 3rd St. He was a member of the Elks, Arizona Club, Phoenix Country Club, Knights of Columbus and was a Phoenix Rotary Club member since 1934. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; two sons, James M. and Beverly, Jr., all of Phoenix; a daughter, Carolyn Oliver of Tucson, and 11 grandchildren. Donna Mallicoat Burton of Scottsdale, Arizona and formerly of Clinton, Iowa died Sunday, September 19, 2004, in Scottsdale, Arizona. She was born Donna Marie Gieseman on June 3, 1922 in White Lake, South Dakota to Fred Gieseman and Edith Schurbon Gieseman. She was raised in Andrew, Iowa by her foster parents, C. Albert and Lena Schurbon. They were her uncle and her aunt. She graduated from Andrew High School, Andrew, Iowa and from AIC in Davenport, Iowa. Donna married Harold E. Mallicoat in 1946 in Andrew, Iowa. He died in November 1, 1981. She married Alvin R. Burton August 17, 1984 in Scottsdale, Arizona. She retired from Ambassador Leather in 1987. She was an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Scottsdale, Arizona. Donna is survived by husband Al, of Scottsdale, her son Mark D. Mallicoat and his wife Kathleen, of Clinton, Iowa, three grandchildren; Jennifer Schnitzler, Jacksonville, North Carolina, Rebecca McConnell, Houston, Texas and Eric Mallicoat of Clinton, Iowa, and three great grandchildren. Also, three stepchildren, Andrew Burton and his wife Michelle of Singapore, Susan Burton, Los Angeles, California and Mark Burton also of Los Angeles, California and three step grandchildren and one step great grandchild. In addition one sister, Ardyce KrelI, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and one brother, Eldon Gieseman of White Lake, South Dakota, survives her. Her parents and two sisters preceded her in death. Robert Orin (Bob) Butler, 83, Mesa, AZ. passed away Friday, September 24, 2004. A native of Tempe, AZ. born on January 10, 1921 is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lorna, and his two daughters, Marla (Steve) Gushee of Chandler, AZ. and Sandra (Greg) Woods of Los Osos, CA., 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Bob is preceded in death by his brother, Richard Butler and is survived by his sister, Betty Fulghum of Tempe, AZ. and brother Edward Butler of Mesa, AZ. Bob was raised at Roosevelt Dam, AZ. and upon graduation attended Milwaukee School of Engineering where he obtained his degree in welding. In 1942 Bob enlisted in the Army Air Corp. serving in the 362nd fighter squadron in England and Germany from 1942-1945. Bob was discharged with numerous decorations and citations. Upon returning to Mesa, Bob worked as an electrician then became an Electrical Contractor doing business as Butler & Burden Electric Co. in Mesa until retiring in 1978. Upon retirement in 1978, Bob and Lorna spent the first year traveling in the U. S. Bob loved the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and camping. His two daughters fondest memories are summer camping trips in the White Mountains near McNary, AZ. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 1, 2004 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Bunker's Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, AZ. Funeral services will be held at Mesa Church of Christ, 1223 E. Dana, Mesa, AZ., Saturday, October 2, 2004 at 10:00 AM. Reginald (Reggie) Almos Byars, Born April 12, 1950, in Mc Dougal, Ark. Peacefully passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on July 31, 2004, after a very sudden illness. Reggie positively impacted countless lives, both human & animals with his special connection to them. He still does this through his teachings & beliefs Reggie's tools included his beloved innocent little jokes & pranks that he would play on everyone at just the right moment. He will always be missed. Reggie's loving family include: his loving wife, friend & soul mate, Mary A. Yost Byars, His mother, Ruby Byars (88), his mother-in-law, Francis Yost, his children: daughter Regina & husband Chris Martin, son Patrick, & his protegee Bridget Pardi, who will continue in the path Reggie has led her too. And his 10 siblings Anita, Wilma, Vada, Ann, Ceal, Slim, Billy, Danny, Sammy, & Stevie also include his in-laws, Lynn & Michael Tibbetts, & their family, Helen, Paul, & Sneakers. There is a special place for his four grandchildren, Ashley, James, Shelby, and Jessica. Reggie cared for and loved many people with his quiet and gentle ways and they for him.
