Mrs. Electa Wyllie Bicket, 76, retired piano teacher, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1960, in Good Samaritan Hospital. Mrs. Bicket, a native of Marissa, Illinois, came to Phoenix from that city 27 years ago. She taught piano 50 years in Illinois and Arizona, retiring in 1956. Surviving are two sons, Robert A. Bicket, Phoenix, and Harold Bicket, Los Angeles. Sonya Biernacki, 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 27, 2004, in West Palm Beach, Florida. Sonya was a loving and supportive wife, mother of five children, and grandmother of eight. She was a talented and accomplished homemaker. She was also an active member of her communities as she moved from her home in Detroit, Michigan to California, New York, New Jersey, back to Michigan, to Sun City, Arizona, and finally, to West Palm Beach, Florida. Sonya was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, Mitchell, and her son, Daniel. She is survived by her four daughters: Barbara (Parks) Souther, Carole (Bruce) Lowell, Susan Hilborn, and Sandra Vanderby. Sun City - Charles Raymond Bitter, 86, a professor of bacteriology at the University of Colorado at Boulder from 1929 to 1964, died Dec. 21, 1982. Mr. Bitter, of 11153 W. Palm Ridge Dr., received his bachelor's degree from the University in 1929 and his Master's Degree in 1931. From 1924 to 1928 he served as research assistant at the National Jewish Hospital in Denver and since 1964 had been professor emeritus at the University of Colorado. Mr. Bitter served in the Army during World War I. Lorraine "Lorna" V. Bjorlie. After a year's courageous struggle with cancer, Lorraine Bjorlie went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 16th. She was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on January 13, 1932 to Andrew and Josephine Krasniak. At the age of 17 she moved to New York City to pursue a singing career. For the next 5 years she was a featured vocalist in various bands along the east coast. She married Henry O. Bjorlie on March 8, 1953 at Eglin AFB in Florida. After raising three children she went to work for the Red Cross in Rome, New York from 1972-1978. She was very dedicated to the Lutheran Church and served in several capacities over the years such as Sunday School teacher, Confirmation instructor, secretary, Synod delegate and choir member. She was preceded in death by her parents, 8 brothers and sisters and her beloved husband, BJ. She is survived by her daughters Jackie Bailey of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Lisa (Bruce) Milack of Scottsdale, son John (Mindy) Bjorlie also of Scottsdale, grandchildren Pvt. 2 Chris Bailey, Erin Bailey, Rebecca Milack, Nicholas Milack, Paul Bjorlie, Andrew Bjorlie, sisters Gen Pugh, Ann Drust, and several nieces and nephews including Cynthia Yaglowski of Phoenix. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p. m. on Friday, September 24th at La Casa de Cristo Lutheran Church located at 6300 E. Bell Road, Scottsdale. John R. Black, November 5, 1919 - August 28, 2004. University of Arizona Hall of Famer, John Black, died August 28, 2004 at 84. Born in Douglas, AZ and raised in Clifton and Tucson. John was the son of Bon and Alice Black. He was married to Shirley Schaefer for 41 years and had 3 children. Shirley passed away in 1982. John graduated from Tucson High School in 1937 and the U of A in 1942. He received his Masters in Education in 1950 from ASU. At the U of A John lettered 3 years in football 1938, 1939 and 1940 and was a member of the SAE Fraternity. He was first team All Border Conference in 1939 and 1940 and was Captain of the team in 1940 as Quarterback and Defensive Back. Arizona was 5th in the nation in total offense in 1939. John also lettered 3 years in basketball as starting Guard. John was inducted into the U of A Sports Hall of Fame for Football and Basketball in 1979. In 1942, John entered the Navy as Ensign and attended the US Navel Academy and was assigned to service at Corpus Christi Naval Air Station and then to an aircraft carrier in the Pacific 1942-1946. John saw action in the Lingayen Gulf Invasion and was hit by a suicide bomber. Was in Okinawa and then Tokyo Bay when the peace treaty was signed. John was discharged in January 1946 as Lt. Senior Grade. After the war, he became an Asst. Football and Basketball Coach at the U of A from 1946-1947. He was hired as Head Football Coach at Phoenix. Union High School from 1947-1951 where he won the State Football Championship and was elected Football Coach of the Year. John was in the cattle and farming business in Linneus, MO 1951-1955 and became the General Agent of State Mutual Life Insurance Co. of America from 1955-1982 in Phoenix. John retired in 1982. John was a life-long supporter of the U of A athletics, serving as President of the Towncats (now Wildcat Club) for 5 years in Phoenix. He served on the U of A Alumni Tucson Board 3 years and Phoenix. Board 10 years. John was inducted into the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame in 2001 for his contribution to high school and U of A sports and elected to Tucson High School Sports Hall of Fame in 1995. John loved golf, fishing and attending U of A football and basketball games. He was a member of Tucson and Pinetop Country Clubs as well as the Desert Club. John is survived by his wife Mary of 22 years, daughters Joanne Barthels (Danny), Carolyn Hudak (Bill), and son John Jr. (Marilyn), sister Mary Nell Yaeger, stepdaughters Cheryl Jones (Jay), Pamela Roberts (Tom), Valerie Crobbe (Dan) and Kelly Simpson (Jeff), 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. There will be a service on September 11th, 11am, at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 2450 E. Fort Lowell Road, in Tucson, followed by a reception at Tucson Country Club. Mesa -- Otis P. Blank, 69, a former vice president of the Associated Gas and Electric Co., died in Mesa Southside Hospital. He moved here seven years ago from Arcade, New York. He was born in Imogene, Iowa, and was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of World War I Veterans and the Church of Christ Scientist. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Wife, Martha; sons, Douglas of Develan, NY, and Norman D. of Phoenix; daughter, Mrs. Winifred WINIARSKI of Tempe; a brother and two sisters out of state; and 15 grandchildren. BLAZER, Harry
Sgt. Harry "Moose" Blazer, 58 a retired sergeant with the Surprise, Arizona Police Department, passed away August 29, 2004 at Thunderbird Banner Hospital after a long illness. He was born on November 12, 1946 in Dayton, Ohio. He was brought to Arizona by his parents in 1949. He served as a police officer for over 25 years before finally retiring in 1998. Harry and Sandy ran T. C. I. Custom Badges, Patches and Pins a successful badge and patch business, designing many of the patches and badges used by police and fire agencies throughout the nation, including many here in Arizona. His wife Sandy will continue on to run the business. Harry had a big heart and many friends. His life will never be forgotten by those who he worked with and befriended through the years. Harry is survived by his wife Sandy, and his sons Chris and Doug. His mother Mary Berthelson and his step father Hervieu Berthelson, four grandchildren, and brother Larry. He was preceded in death by his sister Nancy Baker and his brother Gerry. Funeral services will be Saturday September 4, 2004 at 10 A. Caroline Grace Block, 88, a member of the Third Order of St. Francis at St. Mary's Catholic Church, died Wed., Aug. 30, 1967, in a Phoenix nursing home. Mrs. Block, 211 E. Orangewood, was born in Fort Atkinson, Iowa, and moved to Phoenix in 1906 from Long Beach, CA. She was one of the pioneer member of the St. Mary's Church, a member of the Altar Society, Legion of Mary and Order of Martha. Survivors include a daughter, Gladys MAKAUS of Phoenix; a brother, John Pitzenberger, Ft. Atchinson, IA; and a sister, Mrs. Jean Edwards, Chicago; and four grandchildren. She was also aunt of Levon and Joseph Coltan of Waucoma, IA. Mass of Requiem was sung in her church, 231 N. 3rd St. Burial private. Friday, 9/1/1967.

Clayton A. Bloomer, 71, who had been manager of the export and import department of the Reo Motor Car Co. 32 years in Lansin, MI, died Sunday, May 7, 1967, in St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr. Bloomer, 4342 N. 55th Dr., moved here in 1947 and established the Old Orchard Trailer Park at Scottsdale Road near Earll Dr. He established the Village Cab Co. in Scottsdale in 1948 and operated it until 1953. He was an Army veteran of World war I and was affiliated with Hope Baptist Church. He was born in Flint. Survivors include his wife, Eva Bell; two daughters, Mrs. Betty J. Bailey of East Lansing, MI, and Mrs. Kathryn L. Hull of Phoenix; 15 grandchildren and 12 gr-grandchildren. Services and burial were in St. Johns, Michigan. 8-9 May 1967.

BLYTHE, Ella Margaret
Ella Margaret Blythe, 96, of Chandler, AZ Passed to her eternal reward on September 3, 2004. She was born December 16, 1907 in Shawmut, Arkansas and moved to Chandler in 1928. She graduated from Chandler High School in 1929 and went to work for Dr. A. J. Chandler at the Chandler Improvement Company as a secretary. Mrs. Blythe was active in numerous community organizations throughout her life, including the Chandler Women's Club, the Chandler Garden Club, Girl Scouts and Women's Christian Service. She was also a member of the Chandler United Methodist Church where a Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday September 9, 2004 at 10:30 am. Ella married Helm E. Blythe (deceased, 1969) on March 29, 1930. Together they raised three daughters: Bette Lewis of Washington DC, Marjorie Gamble of Cupertino, CA, and Ruby Vineyard of Phoenix. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Clinton Lewis, Ellen Nelson, George Vineyard, Shannon Wagner, John Gamble, Laura Janisse, and Krista Tennant as well as nine great grand children Andrew Lewis, Kenneth and Patricia Nelson, Tiffany and Nicole Wagner, Jacob and Jenna Gamble, Conner and Tristan Janisse. Ella was the third of nine children born to Arabella and Mathew Calley. she is also survived by one sister, Mardeenah Payne, sister in law Bernice Calley, and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at the Bueler Chandler Mortuary, 14 W Hulet, Chandler between 6:30 - 8:30 p. m. (480) 963-6361.
