This site is about the history of Gila County and the people that made it what it is today. Gila County AZGenWeb is part of the USGenWeb project and is here to provide you with FREE resources to help you find your Ancestors. We hope you enjoy your visit. Please email us if you have any suggestions or contributions you would like to make. Our contact information is at the bottom of every page.
Gila County was established from Maricopa and Pinal Counties on February 8, 1881. Eventually the border was expanded east to the San Carlos River in 1889. The county seat is the City of Globe, with a population of about 7,083 in 1910.
We hope you find our efforts helpful in your research of your Gila County roots.
We are the chosen. In each family, there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. Doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts, but instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the storytellers of the tribe. ~Unknown~"
