UDALL, Elias Earl
Elias Earl Udall, purchasing agent for the City of Phoenix from 1950 to 1954, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 1970, in his home at Mamaroneck, N.Y. At the time of his death he was director of the Model Cities Program at Salt Lake City. He was born in St. Johns, AZ, in 1919 and brought to Phoenix in 1926 by his parents, Leah S. Udall and the late John H. Udall, a former mayor of Phoenix. He graduated from Phoenix College, ASU, and received a master's degree in business administration from Harvard University. During World War II he served as a Navy pilot with the rank of lieutenant commander. Survivors include his wife, Naomi; children, King David, Steven, Bruce, Suzanne and Daniel; nine brothers and sisters, former Mayor Nicholas Udall of Phoenix, Jesse, Samuel and Mrs. Pauline Perkinson, all of Mesa, and Mrs. Ruth Evans of Provo, Reed of Kaysville, UT, Mrs. Janet Mortensen of Modesto, CA, Mrs. Josephine Webster of Parker and Mrs. Mella Flack of St. Louis. UHL, David L.
David L. Uhl died March 28, 2006, after a long bout with cancer. Born January 30, 1942 in Sioux City, Iowa to Lester & Gertrude (Garvin) Uhl, he grew up there on a farm and graduated from Heelan High School in 1960. He married his high school sweetheart, Lynn Barry in 1967. UMANA, Frank Paul
Frank Paul Umana, 77, of Phoenix died Sunday, August 13, 2006 at Carl T. Hayden Veterans' Memorial Hospital. He was born in Brockton, Massachusetts, the son of the late Frank and Jenny Umano (Pistone). He served in the U.S. Navy before building his own home in Norwell, MA in 1974. He relocated to Phoenix in 1978. He married Betty Carter of Dedham, MA on April 30, 1948. Dick retired to Scottsdale in June of 1981. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Betty May (Carter); children Fred of Paradise Valley, David of San Diego, and Elizabeth Sbarbaro of Scottsdale; and grandchildren Kate, Adam, Carter, Austin, Matt, Robert, Kimberly, Samantha, and D.K. UNGER, Ruth Dorothea
Ruth Dorothea Unger, 78, passed away August 31, 2004 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Born July 20, 1926 in Buffalo, New York, she graduated from New Trier High School in Wilmette, Illinois, and attended Endicott College in Massachusetts. She pursued a successful career in acting and modeling in New York. She received a scholarship at the Chicago Art Institute. She moved to Los Angeles, CA where she worked for NBC Television. In 2001 she moved to AZ. Survivors include her bother Richard Unger and sister-in-law Betty from Scottsdale; nephew Fred R. Unger of Paradise Valley, David L. Unger of San Diego, CA, and niece Elizabeth Martin Sbarbaro from Scottsdale; as well as nine nieces and nephews. She suffered with dignity and bravery for several years from PSP and remained the "favorite" guest with her ready smile to all the wonderful employees at Stratford Square. Special thanks go to Vista Care of Phoenix, 4222 E. Thomas Rd., Phoenix, AZ for all their support. According to her wishes, no services are planned. She and her husband John William Upchurch moved to Arizona from North Carolina in the early 50's and together founded Upchurch Candy Co. She went to the business regularly until June of last year. It is fitting that she left us on Labor Day after a life of many years of happily working. She was a gracious Southern lady remembered for her happy smile, loving and giving personality.
