Carl Embrey, 75, died July 28, 1967, in a local hospital. Mr. Embrey, of Kansas City, Kansas was passing through Phoenix on vacation when he became ill. Survivors include three sons, Ariel of Spokane, WA, Lester of Kansas City, MO, and Winifred of Bakersfield, CA. Graveside services were at Double Butte Cemetery in Tempe. 5 August 1967

Scottsdale - Nellie S. Emerson, 83, died March 1, 1970, in a local nursing home. She was born in Arkansas and came to Phoenix 22 years ago. Survivors include a son, C. A. EMHOFF, Howard L.
1 June 1890 - 10 Dec 1970. Sun City - Howard L. Emhoff, in the Army Air Corps as a personnel affairs officer in World War I, died Thurs., Dec. 10, 1970, in his home, 10725 W. Hatcher. Mr. Emhoff had been a manufacturer of scientific instruments. He was born in Providence, N.J., and came to Phoenix in 1967 from Fort Lauderdale, FL and lived in Sun City the past 18 months. Survivors include his wife, Ann V. Papendell Emhoff; two daughters, Shirley Emhoff of Phoenix and Mrs. Betty Green of New York City. Burial in Memory Lawn Cemetery, 719 N. 27th Ave. 12/12/1970.

Jean K. Emmett, 53, a school teacher who founded the Jean King Emmett School in North Borneo and was co-founder of American Interntrional School in Singpore, died Oct. 14, 1979. Beatrice Littlehales Emrich, 89, of Sun City, a homemaker, died Feb. 4, 1994. She was born in Waterbury, Connecticut. Robert Endsley, 53, who retired as a switchman after 28 years with the Santa Fe Railroad, died Oct. 8, 1960, in Phoenix Nursing & Convalescent Center. Leah Rose Engel, 55, an accountant who came here in 1965 from Butler, NY, died Oct. 3, 1980, in Scottsdale Community Hospital. Mrs. Engel was graduated from Wittenberg University, Springfield, OH, where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She is survived by her husband, William; children, Jennifer, Amy and William; and two brothers. Services were at the United Valley Presbyterian Church, Scottsdale. 5 October 1980.

26 December 1911 - 29 December 1982 Virginia M. Engel, 71, a retired manager of a day care center, died Dec. 29, 1982, in Phoenix Baptist Hospital. Mrs. Engel was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and moved to Arizona this year. She is survived by her husband, Delbert; sons, Richard and Donald; mother, Marie Aschenbrenner; two sisters; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild. David Anthony Engelking, 27, In Memory of our loving son who was taken from us suddenly on September 25, 2004. David was born on October 7, 1976 in Phoenix, Arizona. ENGLE, Earle E.
Earle E. Engle, 85, who had worked for Bethlehem Steel Corp. in Chile for more than 55 years, died Wed., Oct. 6, 1982, in a Valley nursing home. He was born in Bethlehem, PA, and moved to Mesa 10 years ago from LaSerena, Chile. He served in the Navy during World War I. ENGLE, James Curtis
James Curtis Engle, 79, who was a self-employed certified public accountant following a 35-year career with the IRS, died March 12, 1980. Mr. Engle was graduated from La Salle University in Philadelphia and came here 30 years ago from Colorado. He was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientists, Sun City, and Odd Fellows Lodge. Survivors include his children, Rosalie Magnard, Jeanette Vorrhis, Juanita McGaugh, Virginia Sinclair, J. Curtis, Jr., and Robert; and 20 grandchildren. 29 May 1889 - 10 Oct 1979 Myrta Salome Engle, 90, who had lived in Phoenix 10 years and was one of the first residents of Beatitudes Campus of Care, died Oct. 10, 1979, in a hospital at Upland, CA. Mrs. Engle is survived by her three sons, 12 grandchildren and nine-great-grandchildren, according to her sister, Lula H. Detrick, who lives at the Beatitudes. ENGLIN, Robert D.
15 Apr 1920 - 23 Mar 1980 Robert D. Englin, 59, who had been an Air Corps pilot instructor in World War II, died Mar 23, 1980, in Whipple Veterans Hospital, Prescott. Mr. Englin had been a real estate broker in Phoenix 10 years before retiring to Prescott in 1979. He came to Arizona 27 years ago from Chicago. John K. English, 80, who taught school 15 years before he moved to Globe 38 years ago, died Sun., May 7, 1967, in Northwest Hospital, Glendale. He moved to Phoenix in 1946 and had been employed 10 years with the AZ State Highway Dept before he retired in 1952. He was a member of Love Baptist Church. He was born in Crockett, TX. EPPINGER, Helen Mary
Helen Mary Eppinger (nee Thompson), 89, of Glendale, born July 9, 1915, died Sept. 18, 2004. She was Native Arizonan, born in Cline, AZ to Robert and Emma Thompson. Helen spent her youth living throughout Arizona with her family, in conjunction with her father's employment as Arizona's first Ranger. Helen met and married her husband, Joseph H. Eppinger in 1936, while living in Prescott. The two lived in Jerome and later settled in Glendale, AZ. Helen was a loving wife and mother of seven. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, husband, daughters Joann (Quince) Hansen, Mary (John) Schlittenhart, and son Carl. She is survived by daughters Marjory (Mark) Haugebak, Emma (Roy) Quinn, sons Joe (Lindy), Robert (Edie), 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Helen will be missed, but not forgotten. Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004 from 9-10 A. M. Funeral Service starting at 10:00 A. M. at Chapel of The Chimes, 7924 N. 59th Ave., Glendale. ERBE, Alice R.
9 March 1906 - 18 December 1982 Services for Alice R. Erbe, 76, who died Dec. 18, 1982 at her Phoenix residence were at Greenwood Memorial Park, 2300 W. Van Buren. Chapel of the Chimes made arrangements. Mrs. Erbe was born in Sandusky, Michigan, and moved to Arizona from Michigan 11 years ago. ERBSCHLOE, Richard
Dr. Richard "Ross" Erbschloe (Lt Col, USAF, Ret.) May 4, 1925, to October 27, 2005. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended Fort Knox Independent School where he met the love of his life and future wife, Janelle Tobsing. During World War II, Ross trained as a fighter pilot in the P-47. Following the war, Ross and Janelle married while they were both at the University of Missouri. In 1950, with a master's degree in statistics, Ross reentered the Air Force. During a long and distinguished career, he flew over 5,500 hours in the C-45, C-47, T-29, and C-130. He served all over the world-Korea, Germany, and Thailand as well as Scott AFB, Illinois; Maxwell AFB, Alabama; Harlingen, Texas; and Langley AFB, Virginia. He created the Statistics program at the Air Force Academy as a faculty member from 1959-1966. Upon retirement, Ross earned his PhD in Higher Education at Arizona State University and became Arizona's Commissioner for Postsecondary Education, a position he held for ten years. He was active in a variety of service organizations: the Kappa Alpha Fraternity, the Masons, Seratoma, the Daedalians, and as a long-time congregation member of Christ Church of the Ascension Episcopal Church in Scottsdale. He had a powerful influence and impact on his cadets, the pilots and navigators he instructed, the students who benefited from his Commission work, and his many friends and family members. He is survived by his wife, Janelle, daughters Susan Lantello and Diann Brei, and son, Don, as well as five grandchildren, Spenser, Amy, Zachary, Melissa, and Alison. He was beloved by all. His funeral was held at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Colorado Springs on 1 Nov 2005. ERNST, John
Prescott -- John Ernst, 87, Arizona cattleman, rancher and businessman for 54 years, died Friday, August 11, 1967, in Yavapai Community Hospital here. Mr. Ernst was born in Austria-Hungary and immigrated to the United States in 1903. In 1913 he moved to Arizona from Pennsylvania and began homesteading a ranch near Simmons,west of Prescott. From 1921 to 1926 Mr. Ernst operated the Ernst Dairy, largest in Phoenix. In 1950 he build and operated for five years the Mission Lodge here. He then went into semi-retirement. He had also built and operated a number of ranches and apartment houses in both Prescott and Phoenix. He is survived by his wife, Marie; a sister in Romania and a brother out of state. Services at the Ruffner Funeral Home in Prescott. Burial in Mountain View Cemetery. 13 August 1967

EVANS, Carlyle Griffith
Carlyle Griffith Evans, 85, of Scottsdale, passed away September 4, 2004. Born and raised in Slating-ton, Pennsylvania, he attended Bucknell University, where he received a degree in accounting. He worked for Bethlehem Steel for a short time, and then was drafted into the United States Army Air Corps. He married Lillian Sefcik in 1944, and after serving in World War II, he attended law school at the University of Texas at Austin. After earning his law degree, he joined the FBI and worked as an agent in New York City. Carl and Lillian moved out west to Tucson, Arizona in 1954, where they raised their three children, and he worked as Chief of Security at Hughes Aircraft Company until retiring in 1981. Carlyle is survived by his beloved wife, Lillian, 87, daughters Mary Jeffers and Kathryn Harrigan, son Joseph Evans, grandchildren Michael, Kristin and Jaime Jeffers, and Kelly and Shannon Harrigan, and great-granddaughter, Jordan Jeffers. EVANS, Kay R.
Kay R. Evans, age 63, died late Saturday evening, September 11, 2004, in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born on October 25, 1940, at Beaver, Oklahoma, the son of Laurel Merl and Gladys Leola (Johnson) Evans. He attended Emporia State University where he received his undergraduate degree. He later entered into the United States Navy, serving in Vietnam. On May 31, 1962, he married Judith Carol "Judy" McGowan at Dighton, Kansas. After their marri-age, the couple lived in many places throughout the United States but returned to Plains, Kansas in 1980. While living in Plains, Kay was the Director of Environmental Services with Southwest Medical Center, Liberal, Kansas. On November 2, 2000, his wife Judy died. After her death, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona, in 2001 to be near his son. He is survived by: a son, Glenn A. Evans of Phoenix, AZ. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Sat., September 18, 2004 at the Plains Christian Church, Plains with Pastor Brian Ingalls presiding. Friends may call from 11 a. m. until 7 p. m. Friday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade, Kansas. Interment will be held in the Plains Cemetery, Plains. Robert H. Evans, 88, died Monday, September 6, 2004, in Sun City, Arizona. He was born October 24, 1915, in Wallace, North Carolina. Mr. Evans was married to Dorothy Parker on August 21, 1948. He served in the United States Navy from November 16, 1933 until September 1, 1955. After retiring from the Navy, he worked as an air conditioner mechanic for 18 years in Richmond, Virginia. He moved to Sun City, Arizona in 1977. He was a member of Willowbrook United Methodist Church, the American Legion, the Naval Fleet Reserve and the Sun City Men's Club. Robert is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two sisters: Janet Pope of Wallace, North Carolina; and Dorothy Shue of Wilmington, North Carolina; two nephews: David and Daniel Pope and a niece: Sara Parker. Sun City - William Christopher Evans, 72, a purchasing agent for Amrican Airlines for 26 years before retiring in 1973, died Nov. 30, 1982, in Boswell Hospital. Mr. Evans was a native of Newport, R.I., and moved to Sun City in 1973 from Island Park, N.Y. He served in the Army during World War II. He graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in Providence and was a life member of the American Legion. He was a member of the New England Club and the Bell Art Club. EVRAETS, Eugene R.
Gene EVRAETS, 62, passed away on February 11, 2004. He was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and moved to Arizona in 1961. Gene married his wife, Donna, in 1965 and together raised three children, Brian (Jana); Shelly (Denny); and Scott. [Joining The Tanner Companies in 1972, Eugene EVRAETS became the Claims Manager. He spent six years, following 1963, as a Field Representative for the Salt River Project, while working toward his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration at Arizona State University. In 1969, he joined the Royal Globe Insurance Company as Multiple Lines Claim Manager, and from that position joined the Tanner Companies. In the years since 1972, he has been successively Insurance and Claims Manager, Assistant Vice President and then in 1980, became a Corporate Vice President in charge of the Risk Management Services. He holds membership in Arizona Insurance Claimsmen Association, Arizona Self Insurers' Association and the Risk and Insurance Management Society. Eugene was born July 27, 1941, married, and the father of three children. p.786] Gene was a local businessman and owner, a graduate of ASU, and a dedicated family man. Preceded in death by his father, Florimond and his brother, Kenneth. Survived by his mother, Emma; wife Donna; three children; and six grandchildren and his ever-loyal dog "Buddy." EWERT, Robert Alan
Robert Alan Ewert, was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. His parents were the late Henry L. EWERT and Mary EWERT. He received his BA degree in mathematics at the University of Illinois in 1966. Shortly after graduation, he joined the Air Force and was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Nebraska. Being one of the youngest Captains at 23 years of age, he was the Aircraft Commander of Operation - RC - 135 aircraft in classified, worldwide reconnaissance missions. He married Peggy A. SYNOVEC in 1972 and left the Air Force in 1973 with an Honorable Discharge, moving to Phoenix, Arizona. He attended Arizona State University (ASU) and received his MBA in 1974. He held many jobs and had a wide variety of interests. He worked for the Federal Energy Administration, flew commercially for Saudia Arabian Airlines, operating L-1011 aircraft from 1977-79 while living in Jeddah, Saudia Arabia. He then worked at the Arizona office of Data Administration from 1979-1981. He bought and operated his own commercial hot air balloon company, Pegasus Balloon, from 1982-1996, attending the Albuquerque International Balloon Festival each of those years. In 1984 he went to work in Phoenix for America West Airlines and flew as a Captain on the B737, B757, Airbus A320, and A319 until 2003, when he retired. In 2001 he applied for and was accepted into Law School at ASU. He graduated in December 2004 and passed the Arizona Bar exam in 2005. After graduation he worked for the Arizona Department of Energy and did volunteer work for the Senior Citizen Law Project, writing wills and trusts. Bob passed away Saturday, January 13, 2007, after fighting a very courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Peggy, daughter Kathrine (Peter) BROWALL, grandson Gustaf, brother Ronald, 3 nieces and 3 nephews. He lived life with a real sense of purpose, joy and a sense of fulfillment. Upon Bob's request, his body was donated to the independent facility, Med Cure, located in Portland, Oregon, an independent donor program for scientific research and medical education.

Clyde Robert Ewing, 79, a longtime winter visitor to Phoenix died Dec. 26, 1982, in Good Samaritan Hospital. Mr. Ewing was born in Victor, Kansas, and resided in Springfield, Oregon. He was a former furnace man for a lumber company in Oregon and an Army veteran. He is survived by his sister, Mina Holstein, stepdaughter, Vernice Coleman; stepsons, Robert and C... Ewing, 80, a farmer and service station operator who died Jan. 4, 1982, at Mount Graham Community Hospital in Safford, were in the Duncan Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mr. Ewing, an Oklahoma native, was a farmer in this area after moving to Arizona in 1928.
