CROSS, Donald Ray
Donald Ray Cross, 73, of Sun City,
Arizona passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 30, 2004. Don was born and
raised in Elkins, West Virginia, where he spent his youth hunting and fishing
with his three brothers and living adventures that would become the subject of
the many stories he loved to tell. He served in the United States Navy in
submarines during the Korean War and was a disabled veteran. He later attended
college in West Virginia and completed his master's degree in education at the
University of Miami. It was in Miami where he met and married his devoted wife
of 46 years, Virginia (Ginnie), and their son Kenneth was born. The new family
moved to Tucson where the golfing and the fishing were great, Don was on the
faculty at the University of Arizona, and their daughter Sara was born. In the
1970's, the family moved to Dallas, Texas, where Don continued his work in
rehabilitation. He spent most of his professional life working with the disabled
and helped countless people receive medical and vocational services. He was an
angel who appeared at just the right moment to many, many people in desperate
and dire need. He was incredibly proud of his son Kenneth, who became a doctor
and his daughter Sara, who followed in his footsteps and became a teacher. Over
the years the family enjoyed many wonderful trips and vacations together, but
the very best was when Ginnie surprised Don with a fishing trip to Alaska for
their 30th wedding anniversary. Don and Ginnie moved to Sun City, Arizona in
2000, before the arrival of their first and only grandchild, Kasey Leah-Rose
Cross. Of all the titles Donald R. Cross ever held, "Grandpa" was his favorite.
His "Little Miss Kasey" will miss him dearly, as will the rest of his family and
friends. Don is survived by his wife Virginia; daughter Sara; granddaughter
Kasey; brother Richard (Roberta); honorary daughter of the Cross family, Pamela
Maciulla; honorary sons of the Cross family, Norman Rychlik, M. D. and David
Ryder, M. D.; honorary grandchildren Michael, Robert, Daniel, and Virginia

friends through Arizona, Texas and all the way back to his beloved West
Virginia. He is preceded in death by his son Kenneth B. Cross, M. D.; brothers
