Sara Brandon was born to immigrant parents in Cleveland, Ohio. She loved her family, her friends and God. She tried all her life to live by the golden rule. Though plagued by asthma and phlebitis, Sara helped raise her six siblings (one sister and five brothers). She completed high school by taking night courses, and was valedictorian of her class. After she graduated, Sara worked as a counselor and was on the staff of N. Y. A. At age 23, Sara crossed the USA with their sister Frances and her brother Peter in a greyhound bus. The girls were forced to sit part of the time on the laps of service men, since they were given priority for the seats. The trio bought a trailer in a park opposite Ft. Frances church on Central Avenue and found jobs here in Phoenix. Sara later took a job in the cashier's office in a Cleveland Airports and Assembly plant in Goodyear, Arizona. In late April, 1947, she met Lesley Edward Brandon, whom she married in Grace Lutheran Church then days later. Lesley also brought to the marriage four-year-old Jim and three-year-old Bobbie. The two little boys were joined the following year by sister Marilyn, and three years later brother John was born. Lesley and Sara reared their children in Flagstaff, Nogales, Bisbee and Warren, Arizona, finally moving back to phoenix in 1959. Sara never gave up her love for writing and in her retirement years took great pleasure in attending creative writing classes and publishing her own books. She loved her family, friends, and God, dearly, and wished to be remembered with good thoughts. If she hurt anyone, it was not intentional or malicious, and wished to be forgiven for any wrong doings. May she rest in peace in Heaven. Sara wished to leave her loved ones the consoling words of the last part of her poem, Introspection: INTROSPECTION "I know that joy of joys for me will be at the parting of the mystic veil, When I my Master's face shall see, Can hear His own dear voice call softly, "Come, be not afraid my child, take my hand and follow me. " God bless you all; may He always be with you, Love Forever, Sara Brandon. (Written by Sara in 1990 as a class exercise in her creative writing class.) Sara Brandon, our beloved mother, died on September 21, 2004. She is now in our Father's Kingdom, embracing the beloved family member that preceded her. She is sorely missed by the daughter, sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends that remain. BROPHY, Anthony Blake

January 27, 1926 - September 19, 2006. Anthony Blake Brophy passed away on the morning of September 19, 2006 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. His devoted wife of 16 years, Dorie ROSALES BROPHY was by his side, as he peacefully completed his journey here on earth. Blake had a rich life, full of friends, family and adventure. His vast and varied interests in politics, religion, history, art, nature, and sports, combined with his keen intellect, quick sense of humor, and strong memory always made for lively, memorable conversations, and friendly debates. He will be remembered by all, as a beautiful writer, avid reader, a graceful athlete, and always, as an elegant gentleman. Blake attended Portsmouth Abbey School in Rhode Island, and then continued his formal education at Yale and Stanford, where he earned a Bachelors degree in History and Journalism, and then went on to earn a Masters Degree in Education and History from ASU. Besides his studies, he played football for Stanford, and was also an excellent tennis player, swimmer, and out-doorsman. Blake joined the Air Force during World War II, and then covered the Korean War as a radio correspondent with the Voice Of America. He also wrote for Time Life Publications, working and living in India, and Japan. He was one of the few journalists taken into Tibet to cover the takeover by China. After being awarded The New York Herald Tribune's, "Award for Excellence" for his coverage of foreign affairs, Blake chose to live and write his featured newspaper column from Madrid, Spain for a year. Upon settling down with his family in his native Arizona, Blake wrote an editorial column for The Arizona Republic, and also worked with Bud De WALD on "Arizona Days and Ways". His historical book, "The Foundlings on the Frontier: Racial and Religious Conflict in Arizona" was published by the University of Arizona Press in 1972. He also did extensive research, and writing on the life of Isabella Greenway, the first US Congresswoman in Arizona history which was of immeasurable value in the writing of her biography. Besides his writing, Blake worked for the Environmental Research Laboratory in Tucson, helping to develop important relations between Puerto Penasco, Mexico, the University of Arizona, and CEDO. He also worked at the Arizona Historical Society where he did extensive work organizing all the family's history. Blake also spent many years working with his father, Frank Cullen BROPHY, accompanying him on his trips to South America, and South Africa. His time in Rhodesia ignited a passion for its people, and deep interest in their plight as a nation. Traveling to South Africa also piqued Blake's interest in growing wine grapes at the family's historic Babacomari Ranch, located in Southeastern Arizona. Through his research and association with Dr. Gordon Dutt from the University of Arizona, Blake was instrumental in starting what is now known as the Elgin Wine Country. Most importantly, Blake will be remembered by family and friends, as a man of integrity, compassion, and true character. He was the one you could call on in the eleventh hour, and when all hope seemed lost he would be right beside you to lend support and encouragement. He had a tender heart, which reached beyond his family, and touched the lives of all he met. Blake BROPHY is survived by his wife, Dorie ROSALES BROPHY, his sisters, Alice McCHESNEY, Sallie GOODMAN (Jerry), Kate BROPHY, and his brother, Rory BROPHY (Bridget), by his daughters, Kelley CLARK (John ), Ellen WILLIAMS (Joe Lynn), Kathleen BROPHY, Bridget BROPHY, Patricia BROPHY, his grandchildren, Sarah CLARK, Blake CLARK, and Angela WILLIAMS, and by his step children, Guillermo (Carmen), Juan Diego, Doris (Jose Antonio), Thomas (Gabriela), Antonio (Cecilia), Guillermina (Gerardo) and by his step-grandchildren, Maricarmen, Sofia, Sebastien, Victoire, Doris, Carmina, Maria Ines, Regina, Carolina, Andrea, Alejandra, and Leopoldo. Mike was a man of few words and great heart who valued honesty, courage and loyalty above all other traits. He profoundly believed in service and commitment to others. Mike was a member of the United Way Tocqueville Society, and a great supporter of Brophy College Preparatory. He was devoted to his family, friends and Catholic faith. Mike's passion for reading, art, travel, fishing, hunting and hiking yielded many friends and admirers. He was a quiet, gentle man and a fierce advocate who never did anything by halves. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
